ABOUT ABBY CARE:
Making family care possible. At Abby Care, we are tackling one of the most important and unsolved challenges of our time: family caregiving.
Over 50 million Americans are family caregivers for loved ones without pay, tools, or support. Our mission is clear and ambitious: to train and employ family caregivers so they can get paid for the care they already provide at home.
Abby Care is building a tech-powered, family-first care platform to efficiently deliver care, improve health outcomes, and provide the best-in-class experience nationwide.
We are rapidly expanding our mission and looking for passionate team members to join. Abby Care has partnered with leading insurance plans, healthcare providers, and community organizations. Weβre supported by top, mission-driven VCs to empower families throughout the country.
THE ROLE:
We are looking for a high-impact, mission-driven Regional People Operations Generalist to serve as the People Ops anchor for our Western US markets. This is a Full-time Hybrid position based in Denver, CO with the expectation to be in-office 4 days per week. While this role supports our broader expansion, your initial focus will be as the primary partner for our Colorado market.
At Abby Care, our People team ensures that while we scale, we never lose the "family-first" touch that defines us. You will be the operational heartbeat of the West region, owning the critical touch points of the employee lifecycle, from the moment a caregiver or HQ worker joins us to their eventual transition.
This is a role for a builder and a problem-solver. You will handle high-volume regional execution (onboarding and compliance) while serving as a support resource for payroll, benefits, and employee relations. Youβll partner closely with local market teams to ensure our people operations are as high-quality and empathetic as the care our caregivers provide.
You will operate in a matrixed capacity: while you are deeply embedded in the West market, you will partner closely with and take functional direction from our HQ People Operations leaders (including our Benefits and Payroll leads) to ensure our regional operations align with company-wide standards and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the worker lifecycle for your region: Lead the end-to-end onboarding and offboarding process for the West region. Youβll ensure that every new hire has a seamless, welcoming, and compliant Day 1.
- Data integrity and compliance: Serve as the guardian of regional data integrity and compliance. Youβll manage background checks, I-9/E-Verify, and credentialing, ensuring the West region is always "audit-ready" and meets all regulatory requirements.
- Regional benefits and leave administration and support: Serve as the regional lead for benefits execution, working under the functional guidance of our Abby Care HQ Benefits Manager. You will manage the full lifecycle of Leaves of Absence (FMLA, CO FAMLI, ADA) for your market and lead local Open Enrollment efforts, ensuring all regional activities align with our national benefits strategy and compliance frameworks. You will also act as the local trusted point of contact about Tier 2 benefits inquiries.
- Payroll support: Serve as the primary escalation point for payroll inquiries within the West region with empathy and compassion. You will partner with the HQ Senior Payroll Manager to ensure all regional payroll processes align with our national payroll strategy and compliance frameworks, and you will partner with our Regional Payroll Specialists as needed to offer local payroll support.
- Frontline employee relations: Serve as the local People partner for employee relations matters. Youβll coach regional managers, document concerns with precision, and lead initial investigations, ensuring fairness and consistency in line with Abby Careβs values.
- Regional market partnership: Build strong, collaborative relationships with West region market teams and leaders. Youβll help them navigate people challenges and use data to surface local trends that help improve the employee experience.
- Process optimization: We are in hypergrowth. You will help us move from "manual and messy" to "structured and scalable" by identifying regional pain points, bringing in local context, and helping design the automated workflows of tomorrow in coordination with the central People Ops team.
The Requirements:
- Experience: 4+ years of progressive HR or People Ops experience. Youβve thrived in a high-growth startup or a high-volume healthcare/logistics environment.
- Regional expertise: You have a solid grasp of Western US labor laws, with a specific focus on Colorado (COMPS orders, FAMLI, HFWA).
- Operational precision: You have a "zero-defect" mindset. You understand that in our world, an onboarding error or a compliance miss directly impacts a familyβs ability to provide care.
- AI fluency: You are comfortable using AI tools to work smarter. Whether itβs using AI to help audit large datasets, draft clear caregiver communications, or find more efficient ways to validate manual inputs, you look for ways to use technology to increase your impact.
- Operational agility: You thrive working in an environment where processes are being built in real-time. You can execute a manual process today while helping us design the automated solution for tomorrow.
- Adaptability: Youβre energized by a fast-paced environment and are comfortable being the primary People Ops presence on the ground in a growing market.
- Clear communication and empathy: You are a clear, down-to-earth communicator. You can explain a pay stub to a caregiver with the same clarity and patience you use when advising a corporate employee on a policy change.
- Modern tech stack fluency: You thrive in a cloud-native environment. You are highly proficient in Slack and Google Workspace (G Suite), using them for rapid communication and real-time collaboration. You are comfortable navigating multiple SaaS platforms simultaneously and prefer agile, digital workflows over static files and email chains.
Bonus Points for:
- Healthcare / Medicaid program understanding: Experience with Medicaid-funded home care programs (e.g., HCBS waivers, IHSS, CDPAP) or similar government-regulated payment structures.
- Spanish fluency: Fluency in Spanish is a major plus.

We are here to make healthcare better, which means asking hard questions, challenging outdated systems, and finding smarter, more compassionate ways to deliver care.
