About the Role
We are seeking a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor to join our therapeutic community. This role involves providing rehabilitative treatment services to students in a residential setting, focusing on group and individual sessions to support recovery and community integration.
Key Responsibilities
- →Lead and participate in group, individual, and therapeutic processes under supervision
- →Conduct intake interviews and ensure students' basic necessities are met
- →Serve as a student advocate by maintaining a hospitable social environment
- →Compile and evaluate comprehensive social, legal, and personal histories of students
- →Observe, record, and evaluate changes in student appearance, behavior, and demeanor
- →Maintain and restore physical environments to create a clean, culturally diverse community
- →Follow up with students' daily community living progress and provide personal necessities
- →Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly engaging student activities and community events
- →Collaborate with the community to define values, acknowledge accomplishments, and teach vision
- →Attend training workshops, conferences, and maintain continued learning in community building
- →Prepare reporting and documentation as required while protecting student confidentiality
- →Provide training and guidance to students and teach good work habits
- →Assist in supervising interns and volunteers
- →Participate in community building activities and faculty staffing
Requirements
- ✓AOD/SUDT Certified from a California state-accredited certifying body
- ✓Bachelor's degree in behavioral health field with one year experience OR High School diploma/GED with two years combined education and work experience
- ✓Demonstrated ability to relate well to students and supervise faculty
- ✓Understanding of human emotions and good verbal/written communication skills
- ✓Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressure with substance abuse students
- ✓Knowledge of therapeutic community processes, methods, and small-group dynamics
- ✓Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse
