About Anthropic
Anthropicβs mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the Team
The Data Center Security Engineering (DCSE) team owns the security posture of Anthropic-operated data center infrastructure, from the physical facility up to the booted node. As Anthropic moves from cloud tenant to operating our own compute footprint at scale, DCSE provides the same security interface a hyperscaler would: a fleet of trustworthy, attestable machines with a stated posture per environment.
The team works across physical security, platform and firmware security, host hardening, and fleet management. This role focuses on fleet management, and you'll collaborate closely with the engineers who own the adjacent layers.
About the role:
β’ Drive through ambiguous technical problems with minimal oversight; this is greenfield work
β’ Turn security invariants that exist on paper into systems that gate operator actions; today many depend on procedural compliance rather than technical enforcement
β’ Scope, design, and build fleet management systems end to end, from initial architecture through production operation
β’ Partner with Data Center Operations and external site operators on workflow adoption; they execute the repair handoffs, work orders, and state transitions your systems gate
Fleet management
β’ Build admission gating, state transition authorization, repair and quarantine discipline, and decommission verification
β’ Integrate platform attestation, physical access systems, credential management, and vendor chain-of-custody so a machine cannot clear a gate on operator assertion alone
β’ Implement automated network isolation, work-order-gated physical access, and chassis intrusion integration where these are currently manual steps
β’ Design operator-facing interfaces that make actions visible without creating friction that gets routed around
You may be a good fit if you have:
β’ A track record of turning procedural controls into technically enforced ones
β’ Demonstrated ownership of ambiguous technical problems through to resolution
β’ At least 8 years of experience in fleet management or machine lifecycle security at hyperscaler scale
β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
β’ Strong programming skills in Python or at least one systems language such as Go or Rust
β’ Experience integrating with platform attestation, credential management, or physical access control systems
β’ Outstanding communication skills across engineering and operations teams
β’ Low ego and high empathy, with a genuine interest in helping teammates and partner teams succeed
β’ Passion for AI safety and the role data center security plays in building trustworthy AI systems
Strong candidates may also have:
β’ Built or operated fleet management systems at a major cloud provider
β’ Experience with TPM-based attestation, measured boot, or hardware root-of-trust integration at fleet admission
β’ Familiarity with BMC/IPMI/OOB management security and credential lifecycle
β’ Built systems that scaled from single-site to portfolio
β’ Built incident quarantine, automated isolation, or asset lifecycle tracking at fleet scale
Deadline to Apply: None, applications will be received on a rolling basis.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact β advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI β rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
