About the role
The Mining Products team at Applied Intuition is building the autonomy stack that powers large-scale autonomous mining operations. As Tech Lead for the Autonomy Platform, you will sit at the intersection of hardware, embedded systems, and software β owning the foundational platform that makes autonomous mining vehicles work reliably in the field. Your scope spans two critical areas: the autonomy interface (low-level vehicle controls, control interface design, and system identification) and the software platform (health monitoring, diagnostics, telemetry, networking, and deployment). You'll work closely with partner teams building middleware, sensor drivers, and deployment frameworks, and enable those capabilities for the mining application specifically. The work is a blend of 0β1 bring-up on new vehicle platforms and building long-term systems for production scale.
At Applied Intuition, you will:
β’ Lead technical direction and mentor engineers for the Autonomy Platform team, setting architecture and execution priorities
β’ Work with autonomy product team to define roadmap across internal product milestones and customer requirements
β’ Own the low-level vehicle controls interface β designing and implementing the autonomy-to-vehicle control layer, including drive-by-wire integration and system identification for new mining platforms
β’ Build and maintain the software platform that keeps autonomous vehicles healthy in production: health monitoring, diagnostics, telemetry pipelines, networking, and OTA deployment
β’ Drive 0β1 bringup of new mining vehicle platforms, from initial hardware bring-up through software integration and field validation
β’ Partner with internal teams to integrate shared capabilities and adapt them for the specific requirements of mining environments
β’ Define and uphold engineering standards for reliability, safety, and scalability as the fleet grows toward full production deployment
We're looking for someone who has:
β’ 7+ years of experience in embedded systems, robotics, or autonomous vehicle software development
β’ Proven experience leading a technical team or functioning as a tech lead on a complex systems project
β’ Hands-on background in robotics actuation β CAN, drive-by-wire, or similar control interfaces
β’ Experience building or owning software platform components: health monitoring, telemetry, diagnostics, or deployment systems for production embedded platforms
β’ Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded and real-time systems development
β’ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Nice to have:
β’ Experience in mining, construction, or agriculture autonomy β familiarity with the operating environment and vehicle types (haul trucks, dozers, drills, etc.)
β’ Background in controls, system identification (sysid), or vehicle dynamics modeling
β’ Familiarity with OTA deployment and fleet management systems for embedded platforms
β’ Prior work in a 0β1 environment β taking a new vehicle platform from initial bring-up to production readiness
β’ Experience working with partner or external teams to integrate shared platform components into a product-specific application
