About the Company
Armada is an edge computing startup that provides computing infrastructure to remote areas where connectivity and cloud infrastructure is limited, as well as areas where data needs to be processed locally for real-time analytics and AI at the edge. Weβre looking to bring on the most brilliant minds to help further our mission of bridging the digital divide with advanced technology infrastructure that can be rapidly deployed anywhere.
About the role
You will own the controls layer for Modular Data Center from design intent to field readiness. This is not just writing sequences. This role makes the system operable: consistent points, clean alarms, predictable fault behavior, and integration-ready interfaces across OEM packaged equipment and site systems.
We partner with OEMs and integrators, but you own the controls outcome including documentation quality, repeatability across builds, and testable behavior in the field.
Owns: Controls intent, points list, alarm philosophy, sequences of operation, integration readiness, test alignment (FAT/SAT/IST) Travel: 10β30% (OEM integration, FAT/SAT support, early deployments as needed)
Location. This role is office-based at our Bellevue, Washington office.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Controls Package Ownership (Deliverables)
β’ Create and maintain the controls package: points list, alarm matrix, sequences of operation (SoO), and trend/log requirements.
β’ Define required setpoints, modes, permissives/interlocks, and operational states so behavior is predictable across variants.
Integration Architecture and Interface Specs
β’ Define the integration approach for packaged equipment and site systems using common controls protocols and clear interface specifications.
β’ Standardize naming/tagging conventions and data models so every build looks the same to operators and monitoring systems.
β’ Own the controls interface baseline (versioning, change control, and impact assessments when packages change).
Fault Behavior and Operational Clarity
β’ Design and validate fault responses (power events, loss of flow, sensor faults, high temperature conditions, equipment trips).
β’ Ensure alarms are meaningful (actionable, prioritized, and not noisy) and tied to operational intent.
Test Alignment and Commissioning Readiness
β’ Partner with the CxA/Field Validation Lead to translate controls intent into functional test scripts and acceptance criteria.
β’ Support OEM controls reviews to ensure points are exposed, alarms are rationalized, and sequences match design intent.
β’ Drive integration readiness for remote monitoring, trending, and operator handoff (including commissioning support and turnover artifacts).
Required Qualifications
β’ 5+ years controls engineering experience in mission critical or industrial systems.
β’ Demonstrated experience integrating packaged equipment controls into a coherent system.
β’ Strong ability to write clear sequences and convert mechanical intent into testable logic.
β’ Experience with alarm rationalization and commissioning/startup support.
β’ Comfort with controls networking and integration fundamentals (addressing, data exchange, segmentation basics, reliability considerations).
Preferred Experience and Skills
β’ Direct experience with data center plant controls and/or modular infrastructure systems.
β’ Hands-on experience with protocols such as BACnet and Modbus (or equivalent).
β’ Prior exposure to functional performance testing and field bring-up (FAT/SAT/IST).
Compensation
For U.S. Based candidates: To ensure fairness and transparency, the starting base salary range for this role for candidates in the U.S. are listed below, varying based on location experience, skills, and qualifications.
We use a geographic pay structure based on cost-of-labor markets.
