As part of the Bureau of Technology, you'll design, develop, and implement AI-driven solutions that improve our marketplace. You'll be joining the AI Core Team, a group of data scientists and software engineers working together to incubate high-impact product features and help other teams use AI effectively.
Your work will span R&D on emerging AI technologies and building innovative AI applications across areas like Agentic Shopping and Fraud Detection. You'll also play a key role in growing our AI community at Back Market by setting standards, sharing knowledge, and coaching teams on how to work with AI.

What you will do:
- Identify company problems and opportunities that AI can address, own them end-to-end, from problem definition to production rollout, collaborating with stakeholders and relevant teams to design and ship the product features that solves them.
- Hands-on development, productionisation, and operation of machine learning models and/or GenAI applications at scale. This includes integrating and optimizing LLMs for production environments.
- Regularly present work internally (demo, internal conferences,...) to technical, engineering and product stakeholders to acculturate the business to AI related topics
- Act as an internal AI enablement expert, helping Back Makers get the most out of tools like Dust and Claude Code. This means running workshops, sharing engineering best practices, and coaching teams on how to integrate AI into their work effectively
About you:
- 6+ years of industry experience in data science or related fields, with a Master's or PhD in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Economics, Sciences, or Engineering)
- Proven track record of leading impactful data science initiatives that solve real business problems, with the ability to mentor and develop scientists, engineers, and peers
- Deep knowledge of the ML lifecycle, algorithms, best practices, and domains such as time series, NLP, and recommendations, including hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and Generative AI APIs
- Strong ability to design end-to-end AI and data architectures that integrate with existing product systems, data platforms, and engineering infrastructure, with solid Python skills and software engineering fundamentals (testing, code review, deployment)
- Proficiency in AI-assisted and agentic coding workflows (e.g. Claude Code), and strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
