Barbaricum is seeking a Social Media Manager to support U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Public Affairs by managing and executing digital communication strategies across multiple platforms. This role is responsible for developing, publishing, and analyzing social media content that aligns with CENTCOM messaging priorities and operational objectives.
The selected candidate will support real-time information dissemination, audience engagement, and strategic communication efforts in a high-tempo environment. This position requires the ability to operate within established DoD public affairs guidance while maintaining responsiveness during crisis events and evolving mission requirements.
Responsibilities:
β’ Manage and maintain CENTCOMβs social media platforms, including both English and foreign language accounts.β’ Develop, publish, and distribute strategic content aligned with approved messaging and communication objectives.β’ Execute crisis communication strategies, delivering timely and accurate responses during high-tempo events.β’ Monitor audience engagement and interact with key stakeholders across social media platforms.β’ Track, analyze, and report on social media metrics (e.g., reach, engagement, sentiment) to inform decision-making.β’ Develop and maintain a monthly digital media publication plan aligned with mission priorities.β’ Ensure compliance with CENTCOM and DoD digital security policies, including account access controls and content review processes.β’ Coordinate with Regional Media Analysts and other stakeholders to synchronize messaging across geographic areas.β’ Maintain and update databases of social media accounts, key influencers, and relevant organizations within the operational environment.β’ Support monitoring of media trends, narratives, and emerging information relevant to CENTCOM operations.β’ Provide recommendations to improve digital engagement, content effectiveness, and communication strategies.
Required Qualifications:
β’ Active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.β’ Bachelorβs degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Marketing, Journalism, or related field; additional experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.β’ 5+ years of experience in social media management, digital communications, or public affairs, preferably supporting DoD or federal programs.β’ Experience developing and executing social media strategies in a structured, mission-driven environment.β’ Experience analyzing social media metrics and producing data-driven reports and recommendations.β’ Strong understanding of DoD public affairs guidance, communication policies, and information release procedures.β’ Ability to operate in a high-tempo environment, including supporting crisis communications and surge operations.β’ Strong written communication, editing, and content development skills.β’ Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprinklr, native platform analytics).
Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Experience supporting Combatant Commands or Joint Operations environments.β’ Experience with foreign language or regional media coordination.β’ Experience supporting information operations, influence campaigns, or media monitoring efforts.β’ Experience integrating social media analytics into broader strategic communication planning.β’ Certified Digital Marketing Professional (CDMP) or equivalent certification.β’ Hootsuite Social Marketing Certification or similar platform-based certification.
