About the Role
We are looking for a Language Manager to join Canva's team in Johannesburg. This role focuses on localizing Canva's product for African users, ensuring the best possible experience across 19 African languages.
Key Responsibilities
- βWork with the Localisation Lead to create Canvaβs voice across all parts of the Canva product in 19 African languages.
- βTranslate key content and manage the relationship with our localisation vendor.
- βDevelop and update style guides and glossaries
- βReview and evaluate translations
- βProvide cultural insights and guidance
- βIdentify key opportunities for localisation improvements
- βReview vendor translations
- βAssess and source new LSPs
- βAnswer linguistic questions
- βTriage results of scripted testing
Requirements
- βPassion for languages and cultures
- βUnderstanding of customer needs in South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria
- βEntrepreneurial spirit with a strong bias towards action and ownership
- βCopy-writing experience (preferred)
- βExpertise with CAT tools (Smartling preferred) and marketing tech stack (Braze, Wordpress, Canva)
- βUnderstanding of organic growth (SEO)
- βDesign experience or familiarity with design tools (preferred)
- βTertiary education in linguistics, literature, or localisation (preferred)
