About the Role
We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join the Editing Collaboration team at Canva. This role involves leading technical direction for real-time collaboration features and integrating AI into team collaboration flows.
Key Responsibilities
- βLead the technical direction for real-time collaboration features and commenting at scale
- βIntegrate AI into team collaboration flows to create seamless and smart experiences
- βBuild shared infrastructure and frameworks to enable faster collaboration tooling
- βWrite code hands-on while influencing product direction alongside PMs and designers
- βMake critical calls on latency, reliability, and data consistency in real-time systems
- βShare knowledge and mentor peers through thought leadership
- βOwn system health and reduce tech debt with a proactive, long-term mindset
- βDrive cross-team collaboration and represent Editing Collaboration across Canva
Requirements
- βExperience leading large-scale engineering projects from concept to impact
- βHands-on experience with real-time technologies like WebSockets or WebRTC
- βStrong frontend skills with React, TypeScript, MobX, and JavaScript
- βAbility to think strategically and connect architecture to Canva-wide goals
- βExperience mentoring and raising the engineering bar
- βComfort influencing senior stakeholders with clarity and confidence
- βGenuine care about building tools that make teams work better together
