Weβre Capital on Tap π
π³ Capital on Tap started because small businesses were underserved. Big banks were slow, their products weren't fit for purpose, and small business owners often couldn't access what they needed. We set out to fix that.
Today we're a financial platform - not just a credit card company. We offer a best-in-class business credit card, SME-focused spend management platform, a savings product that hit Β£1 billion in funds within its first year, and a growing suite of tools and financial products that make running a small business easier.
1,000+ employees, Β£20bn in annual card spend, 200,000+ customers, 17,000+ Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.7 stars, and we're profitable. Weβve done a pretty good job so far, but weβre just getting started!

Platform Engineering at Capital On Tap π
The Platform Engineering team powers fast, secure, and reliable software delivery across the business. We partner with Engineering, Data, Security, and QA teams to build platforms that reduce toil and make engineers' lives easier. From managing our Azure infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to shaping core developer tooling, we focus on scalability, resiliency, and security at every step. We're always exploring new tools, testing ideas, and applying industry best practices to keep our platform cutting-edge and our teams empowered.
What You'll Be Doing ποΈ
β’ Develop a deep understanding of how infrastructure changes differ from application changes, and become a subject matter expert in the unique challenges of testing them safely and effectively.
β’ Define and own the frameworks, processes, and guardrails that ensure infrastructure changes are validated consistently across all environments from development through to production.
β’ Build and maintain automated validation pipelines that verify infrastructure changes at each stage of promotion, catching drift, regressions, and misconfigurations before they reach production.
β’ Establish clear standards for what "good" infrastructure testing looks like at Capital on Tap covering areas such as plan validation, policy compliance, integration testing, and rollback verification.
β’ Design, provision, and maintain dedicated test environments on Azure, ensuring they are stable, reproducible, and closely mirror production.
β’ Own the Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for all test environment provisioning, teardown, and configuration management.
β’ Collaborate with QA and Product Engineering teams to understand environment requirements and translate them into reliable, scalable infrastructure.
β’ Develop and enforce standards around test data management β including data seeding, masking, and refresh strategies to support consistent and repeatable testing.
β’ Monitor the health and availability of test environments using existing observability tooling, proactively identifying and resolving issues before they block teams.
β’ Contribute to incident management processes, ensuring infrastructure-related failures are diagnosed quickly and learnings feed back into improved guardrails and processes.
Our Values & Culture π
β’ Just Pilot: We never settle for βgood enoughβ. We pilot new ideas fast, ask questions to figure it out, and scale quickly.
β’ Why Not Today? Fast is as slow as we go - speed and simplicity gives us a competitive advantage.
β’ Be a Buddy: We tap in from day one to help the team, we do the right thing even if itβs hard.
β’ Owners and Dates: We donβt chase people. If you own a task and agree to a date, the expectation is that it gets done.
β’ Feedback: We want our employees to flourish, so we regularly provide direct and constructive feedback.
Weβre Looking For π
β’ 2-4 years of experience in a platform, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering role, ideally with some exposure to QA, testing practices, or quality engineering.
β’ A genuine curiosity for understanding how infrastructure changes behave differently to application code changes, and an interest in building the processes to test them rigorously.
β’ Hands-on experience with a major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP), with the ability to design and manage non-production environments.
β’ Proven experience writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), including an understanding of plan/apply workflows and how changes can be safely validated.
β’ Familiarity with policy-as-code, compliance validation, or infrastructure testing approaches (e.g. validating configurations, detecting drift, or verifying rollback behaviour).
β’ Solid understanding of containerisation and Kubernetes, particularly in the context of running isolated, ephemeral test workloads.
β’ Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and how infrastructure change validation fits into automated delivery workflows.
β’ Comfortable working with observability and alerting tooling to monitor environment health and surface issues early.
β’ Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, PowerShell, or Go) for automation and tooling tasks.
β’ Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach, you'll be working closely with platform engineers, QA engineers, and security teams to establish shared standards.
Even if you donβt have all of the necessary skills, we still encourage you to apply.
Interview Process π€
β’ First stage: 30-minute intro, CV review, and values with Talent Partner
β’ Second stage: 45-minute βTech Chatβ with Team Manager
β’ Final stage: 60-minute Code Pairing + 30-minute Stakeholder Interview with Engineering & Product
