About the Role
CERN's IT Storage and Data Management group is seeking a Python Developer to work on Rucio, an open-source data management platform used by major LHC experiments. This role involves developing software to integrate Rucio with CERN IT services and implementing Open Data interfaces as part of CERN's Open Science mission.
Key Responsibilities
- →Develop software in Python for the Rucio project and CERN IT services, integrating with distributed storage systems
- →Perform high-level operations of Linux-based machines and Kubernetes clusters, and large-scale data management systems
- →Participate in the Operations team, focusing on infrastructure, incident response, and user support
- →Develop authentication mechanisms to export data for Open Science
- →Integrate Rucio with Open Data Portals
- →Design new APIs and contribute to the upstream Rucio project
Requirements
- ✓Software Development tasks, primarily in Python
- ✓Experience with Linux systems, both in baremetal and container environments (Kubernetes)
- ✓Demonstrated experience using Git
- ✓Experience working in teams
- ✓Programming languages: Python (required), Go (bonus)
- ✓Proficiency in Web frameworks (e.g., Flask) and REST API design
- ✓Linux system administration
- ✓Containers and Kubernetes (required), Helm charts (bonus)
