About the Role CharterUP is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Infrastructure to architect, build, and own the core platform and infrastructure systems that power our two-sided marketplace. You’ll partner closely with engineering leadership, product managers, and application teams to design and operate scalable, reliable, and secure systems that support our rapidly growing business. In this role, you will lead initiatives across cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, observability, and data systems—ensuring our applications and services can scale efficiently while enabling fast, high-quality product development. Title: Staff Software Engineer - Infrastructure Reports to: VP of Engineering Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid: Monday, Wednesday, Friday in-office). What You’ll Do • Lead the design and evolution of scalable, secure, and highly available infrastructure, leveraging modern DevOps practices and AI-assisted tooling where appropriate. • Build and enhance platform capabilities (CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, developer tooling) to enable faster, more reliable product development. • Drive reliability, performance, and cost efficiency through observability, automation, and intelligent alerting. • Establish and promote infrastructure best practices, including AI-driven workflows for deployment, monitoring, and incident response. • Partner cross-functionally and mentor engineers, while leading incident response and continuous improvement efforts to strengthen system resilience. What You’ll Bring • 8–12+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering roles. • Strong expertise in cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS) and distributed systems design. • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD systems, plus experience with containerization/orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). • Experience building observability systems and improving reliability at scale, with familiarity using AI-driven tools for automation and monitoring. • Proven track record of leading complex infrastructure initiatives with a hands-on, ownership-driven mindset focused on reliability, efficiency, and developer experience.
