We spent years perfecting a service most people will never notice. Because when digital payments just work, businesses grow, customers stay, and no one stops to think about why.
With 19 offices spanning six continents, we feel at home everywhere β but London is our HQ. Wherever our people work their magic, theyβre fast-moving, performance-obsessed, and driven by being better every day. Ideal. Because a role here isnβt just another job; itβs a career-defining opportunity to build the future of fintech.
We are looking for a Staff Technical Product Manager to help shape the strategy, priorities, and execution of our Central Services portfolio.
Central Services provides the core internal platforms and capabilities that enable engineering teams across Checkout.com [Upgrade to PRO to see link] to build, ship, operate, and scale effectively. This includes areas such as Data Platform, Cloud Platform, Developer Platform, and Agentic Tooling.
This is a senior, highly cross-functional role for someone who can operate across a broad technical landscape, work effectively with engineering and business leadership, and bring clarity to complex platform investment decisions. You will partner closely with platform engineering teams and senior stakeholders across the organisation to define roadmaps, align priorities, and ensure our internal platforms deliver measurable value to engineering teams and the business.
You do not need to be the person implementing these platforms directly, but you do need the technical fluency and product judgement to understand the problem spaces, assess trade-offs, and guide the evolution of the portfolio.
ABOUT CENTRAL SERVICES
Central Services covers several strategic platform domains that underpin engineering delivery across the company:
- Data Platform β enabling reliable, scalable, and governed data capabilities across areas such as streaming, ingestion, storage, lake/lakehouse patterns, and internal data enablement
- Cloud Platform β providing the foundational AWS, Azure, and GCP environments, patterns, controls, and services that allow teams to build and operate securely and efficiently in the cloud
- Developer Platform β delivering internal developer tooling and workflows, including areas such as source control, CI/CD, software delivery enablement, and developer experience
- Agentic Tooling β shaping the future of autonomous and semi-autonomous software delivery through coding agents, orchestration, guardrails, workflow integration, and safe adoption at scale
HOW YOUβLL MAKE AN IMPACT
- Define and drive product strategy across the Central Services portfolio, ensuring platform investments align with company priorities and engineering needs.
- Partner with engineering leadership across Data Platform, Cloud Platform, Developer Platform, and Agentic Tooling to shape roadmaps and prioritise the highest-impact opportunities.
- Translate broad business and engineering goals into clear product direction, measurable outcomes, and prioritised initiatives.
- Build a strong understanding of internal users across engineering, data, security, and adjacent functions, identifying pain points and opportunities to improve productivity, reliability, scalability, and governance.
- Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform strategy, helping teams make deliberate trade-offs across usability, adoption, resilience, security, and cost.
- Drive alignment across multiple teams and stakeholders, especially where priorities compete or ownership is distributed.
- Establish product frameworks, goals, and success measures for Central Services capabilities, including adoption, satisfaction, efficiency, reliability, and business impact.
- Lead discovery and definition for new platform capabilities and improvements, ensuring teams are solving meaningful problems with clear value.
- Bring structure and clarity to ambiguous or emerging problem spaces, particularly in areas such as agentic tooling and internal platform evolution.
- Partner with technical leaders to understand architecture, dependencies, risks, and delivery constraints well enough to make strong prioritisation and sequencing decisions.
- Communicate roadmap, progress, trade-offs, and strategic direction clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Help foster a product mindset within platform and infrastructure teams, connecting technical investments to user outcomes and company impact.
WHAT WEβRE LOOKING FOR
- Significant experience in Technical Product Management, Platform Product Management, or a similar role operating in complex technical environments with cross team coordination.
- Working in a consultative manner with other teams to ensure their requirements are understood, aligned to the roadmap and delivered to requirements.
- Proven ability to work across multiple technical domains and teams, influencing strategy and execution beyond a single product area.
- Strong technical fluency, with the ability to engage credibly with engineers, architects, and senior technical leaders across areas such as platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, data systems, developer tooling, or AI-enabled engineering systems.
- Experience defining roadmaps and priorities for internal platforms or deeply technical products used by engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of platform product management, including internal customer discovery, self-service enablement, adoption, service maturity, and outcome-based prioritisation.
- Demonstrated experience balancing strategic thinking with pragmatic execution in fast-moving organisations.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to align senior leaders with differing priorities and perspectives.
- Strong analytical and decision-making capability, with the ability to use qualitative and quantitative inputs to drive prioritisation.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, identify the right problems to solve, and create momentum across cross-functional teams.
- A track record of leading through influence rather than direct authority.
DOMAIN EXPERIENCE WEβD VALUE
We do not expect deep implementation expertise in every area, but we are looking for someone with strong awareness of several of the following domains:
- Data Platform: streaming, ingestion, data lakes/lakehouses, governance, platform usability, and data enablement
- Cloud Platform: multi-cloud environments, cloud operating models, account/subscription/ project provisioning, guardrails, identity, networking, cost and reliability considerations
- Developer Platform: source control platforms, CI/CD, developer workflows, internal developer portals, release enablement, and developer experience
- Agentic Tooling: autonomous coding systems, AI-assisted software delivery, workflow orchestration, safety controls, evaluation, governance, and scalable adoption within engineering organisations
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in fintech, payments, or other regulated and high-scale environments
- Experience working with platform engineering, site reliability, cloud, data, or developer productivity organisations
- Familiarity with organisational change management and adoption of new technical capabilities across large engineering teams
- Experience defining success metrics for internal platforms and measuring impact through engineering and business outcomes
- Exposure to emerging AI/Agentic Development tooling in enterprise engineering environments
