The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) seeks to eliminate inequities resulting in premature mortality. With an unwavering grounding in history and structural analysis, CHECW works to increase visibility of socially unjust policy while pushing towards redress for the most impacted NYC communities. CHECW addresses inequity across community and healthcare systems in partnership with community, faith-based, and health care organizations. CHECW's work focuses on social determinants of health, including environmental and commercial determinants, and addresses both upstream and downstream factors to improve health and well-being of New Yorkers. CHECW is comprised of the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention, the Bureau of Health Equity Capacity Building, the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems and the Bureau of Finance Administration, and Services. The division's Deputy Commissioner also serves as the Agency's Chief Equity Officer and oversees Race to Justice, the Agency's internal reform effort to help our staff learn what they can do to better address racial health gaps and improve health outcomes for all New Yorkers.
The division's Deputy Commissioner also serves as the Agency's Chief Medical Officer. The Office of Health Care Access & Policy (HACAP) with the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems advances policy, programming, and research to expand health insurance coverage and equitable access to affordable, high-quality primary care. HCAP integrates data analysis, policy expertise, and programmatic work to identify and address system-level barriers to culturally appropriate care for New Yorkers most at risk for poor health outcomes.
The Bureau of Equitable Health Systems seeks to hire a Data Analyst to provide support the Office of Health Insurance Services as well as the Office of Health Care Access and Policy.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
-Support the planning, development, and implementation of the Bureau's data analysis, research and surveillance activities.
-Conduct analyses of existing data to support planning and policy development.
-Prepare analysis plans and data-driven reports and presentations.
-Conduct data quality assurance activities including data cleaning and recoding.
-Support database management and evaluation activities.
-Coordinate projects and research activities.
-Assist with preparing scientific manuscripts for publication.
-Work collaboratively with internal and external groups in align data collection and data inetration.
-Prepare reports, briefs, and presentations on research findings and recommendations.
-Present findings within the bureau and across the agency, as necessary.
-Assist on special projects as needed.
-Use exceptional professional judgement and discretion when handling highly sensitive and confidential data (i.e., human subjects data.
-Additional duties as assigned.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
-Core Competencies:
-Strong quantitative research and analytical skills
-Experience cleaning, managing, and analyzing large datasets
-Proficiency in at least one statistical programming language (e.g.SAS, R) and writing clear, well-documented analytic code.
-Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to translate findings for non-technica audiences.
-Demonstrated ability to manage projects and multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
-Preferred competencies/a plus:
-Experience with complex survey data
-Experience with tools for data visualization, presentation, and mapping, eg., DataWrapper, Excel, PowerBI, GitHub, GIS/ArcMap, and/or PowerPoint.
-Experience with health care access topics and related quantitative and qualitative research and analysis.
-Familiarity with datasets with NYC health metrics (e.g., NYC Community Health Survey, Medicaid claims, SPARCS, American Community Survey Public Use Microdata Sample).
-Demonstrated interest in or experience applying an equity lens to health data analysis and interpretation.
