About the Role
The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is seeking a Data Scientist to play a key role in the enforcement of groundbreaking new legal protections for workers. This role involves working closely with investigation and litigation teams to develop and implement strategies for data collection and analysis related to compliance with city workplace laws.
Key Responsibilities
- →Work with investigators and attorneys to identify data necessary for evaluating employers’ compliance with NYC workplace laws
- →Communicate with employers’ counsel and technical staff to ensure delivery of responsive data
- →Develop and use data analysis tools to describe employer practices, identify key witnesses, and calculate damages
- →Assess how OLPS uses data in its investigations and litigation and recommend improvements
- →Recommend changes to laws, rules, and agency guidance related to data functions
- →Assist with other aspects of OLPS’s work, including labor market data analysis and process design
Requirements
- ✓Strong background in data science, statistics, or a related field
- ✓Experience with data collection, analysis, and visualization
- ✓Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python or SQL
- ✓Understanding of database management and statistical analysis
- ✓Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- ✓Experience with machine learning and predictive modeling is a plus
