About the Role
The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) is seeking a System Security Engineer to manage and secure their IT environment. This role will focus on maintaining system stability and cybersecurity readiness within a small but capable IT team.
Key Responsibilities
- →Manage user accounts, permissions, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs) in Active Directory
- →Administer Exchange on-premises and Exchange Online hybrid environments
- →Apply Microsoft and CIS hardening baselines and enforce consistent security configurations
- →Implement and manage regular patching schedules for Windows Servers and Exchange systems
- →Monitor user activity, device compliance, system configurations, and mail flow using various tools
- →Maintain secure access controls and auditing for file shares
- →Manage digital certificates, renewals, and certificate authorities
- →Ensure reliable backups for critical systems and test restoration procedures
- →Develop PowerShell scripts to automate tasks and maintain accurate operational documentation
- →Work cross-functionally with IT support and network teams
Requirements
- ✓Experience with Active Directory Administration
- ✓Experience with Exchange Management in hybrid environments
- ✓Knowledge of security and compliance practices
- ✓Experience with patch and configuration management
- ✓Familiarity with monitoring and response tools like Proofpoint, Varonis, Adaudit, SIEM, Endpoint Manager, and AirWatch MDM
- ✓Experience with file share management and auditing
- ✓Knowledge of certificates and PKI management
- ✓Experience with backup and recovery procedures
- ✓Proficiency in PowerShell scripting
- ✓Ability to work in a small IT team environment
