The Position

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Payments team and build critical systems that power millions of transactions for sports fans across the US. This role will focus on systems and integrations with 3rd parties for deposits, refunds, withdrawals, and more. This is a critical team within FanDuel that interacts with a lot of internal and external engineering teams, so the service needs to be fast, reliable, and high quality!
You'll be part of a collaborative team that values strong technical skills, operational excellence, and the ability to work effectively in a regulated environment.
The Role
β’ Create high quality code and architecture to further our systems and technical solutions in the payments space (using Java, Spring Boot, React and some Python)
β’ Focus on operational excellence (leaving things better than when you found them)
β’ Actively participate in sprint ceremonies like daily huddles, backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint review and sprint retrospective
β’ Mentoring more junior or newer members of the team to ensure they can contribute productively quicker
β’ Engage in code reviews and pair-programming
β’ Problem-solve and debug code, including production support
β’ Work with AWS cloud services for deployment and infrastructure
β’ Collaborate closely with internal and external engineering teams
What Weβre Looking For
Technical Skills:
β’ Strong focus in Java OR react (with the ability to contribute across the stack)
β’ Hands-on cloud experience (we use AWS)
β’ Testing experience and willingness to take ownership of code quality
β’ DevOps and operational deployment experience beneficial
β’ Production support environment experience
Background & Mindset:
β’ Strong collaboration skills
β’ Good listener who values teamwork over dogmatic approaches
β’ Comfortable with operational responsibilities and on-call duties (up to around 1 week every two months)
β’ Autonomous working style with hands-on technical approach
