Description
As our Director of Engineering, you will help build, execute, and communicate the Felix engineering vision. Working alongside our SVP of engineering, you will help define the roadmap and strategic goals. You will help oversee our 32-developer team, ensuring we hit company and team metrics, manage timelines, identify resources, create incredible leverage with the latest tools and technologies and ensure delivery on commitments to the business.
You will be integral in the engineering, architecture and management of our high-performing team. A core focus will be defining key processes and practices, and experimenting with new technology to push the envelope on how fast and well we can build using AI-powered tools like Claude Code.
Responsibilities
- Spearhead the strategy for maximizing velocity, quality, and maintainability of code developed by the team, primarily utilizing Claude Code and the latest LLMs for software development.
- Define and optimize workflows, tooling, and processes to ensure the developer team pushes the envelope on build speed and quality in an AI-augmented environment.
- Mentor and inspire our development team by providing architectural, technical, and AI-development best-practice guidance.
- Design, implement and monitor all operations and key performance indicators, including metrics and operational efficiency, from the engineering team.
- Create and execute successful technological strategies that reflect and are aligned with the vision and mission of Felix.
- Collaborate closely with our SVP Engineering, Product and Ops teams, helping set strategic initiatives.
- Continue to build our amazing Engineering team through the recruitment of top engineering talent.
Requirements
- Has 5+ years of leadership experience in software engineering.
- Proven, hands-on experience integrating and managing large teams (30+ developers) that are using AI-powered code generation tools to significantly enhance development speed and quality.
- Deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges in an AI-augmented software development lifecycle (SDLC), including code review best practices, prompt engineering for development, and maximizing throughput with code-generating models.
- Demonstrates the ability to build cohesive, high-performing and healthy teams and has proven relationship management and leadership skillsβthey donβt shy away from challenging or difficult conversations.
- Effectively manages diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities and is an experienced project manager, problem solver and change manager.
- Understands the importance of effective collaboration and can get people on board with their ideas.
