About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Research Associate to support formulation and product development efforts at Flagship Pioneering. This foundational role will focus on the development, screening, and optimization of dried powder formulations using techniques like lyophilization and spray drying.
Key Responsibilities
- →Design, execute, and optimize dried powder formulations with a focus on stability, reproducibility, and performance
- →Execute formulation screening using statistically grounded experimental designs
- →Evaluate the impact of excipients, processing conditions, and storage environments on material stability
- →Characterize dried powder products using analytical and physical methods
- →Support process development by documenting critical parameters and identifying sources of variability
- →Maintain rigorous experimental documentation and generate high-quality summaries
- →Contribute to establishing long-term formulation workflows and standards
Requirements
- ✓Bachelor’s degree (5-7 years experience) or Master’s degree (3-5 years experience) in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, materials science, biotechnology, or related field
- ✓Experience with drying-based formulation techniques including lyophilization and/or spray drying
- ✓Strong grounding in physical chemistry or materials science principles relevant to dried systems
- ✓Experience designing and executing statistically informed experiments
- ✓Familiarity with analytical and characterization techniques for powders and solid-state materials
- ✓Familiarity with downstream processing operations
- ✓Proven ability to work independently in a dynamic research environment
- ✓Strong scientific documentation and communication skills
- ✓Demonstrated curiosity, adaptability, and comfort working across disciplines
