Who You Are:
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our NYC-based engineering team building and supporting our GalaxyOne institutional platform, with a primary focus on reporting, statements, and login/entitlements management. This role requires someone who can own outcomes end-to-end - from aligning with stakeholders on requirements through to delivery and production support - while navigating cross-functional relationships across engineering, product, operations, and the business.
What Youβll Do:
β’ Design and architect systems, services, and features on a cloud-native platform to increase automation and ensure the integrity and security of our systems.
β’ Work directly with stakeholders across product, operations, compliance, and the business to understand needs, define requirements, and drive delivery.
β’ Enhance and continue to build out our reporting, statements, and login/entitlements management systems and processes.
β’ Coordinate cross-functionally with other engineering teams to support broader platform functionality such as trading, lending, staking, and settlement.
β’ Take ownership of projects from scoping through production, managing timelines, dependencies, and communication along the way.
β’ Embrace and champion the thoughtful adoption of AI to improve team performance and business outcomes.
β’ Leverage AI tools (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, data copilots) to improve productivity, decision-making, and output quality in your day-to-day work.
What Weβre Looking For:
β’ 7+ years of professional software development experience.
β’ Solid computer science fundamentals and a proven track record in software design and development.
β’ Expert-level engineering skills in Java, Scala, Kotlin, C#, or similar (we primarily work in Java).
β’ Strong database and SQL knowledge.
β’ In-depth knowledge of object-oriented programming fundamentals.
β’ Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.
β’ A strong communicator who builds trust with both technical and non-technical partners - someone comfortable presenting trade-offs, pushing back when needed, and keeping stakeholders aligned.
β’ Experience collaborating across teams and functions as part of the SDLC.
β’ Familiarity with the full development lifecycle of a commercial system, including requirements definition, agile planning, production deployment, and production support.
Bonus Points:
β’ Familiarity with AI-driven development tooling.
β’ Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging system experience.
β’ Kubernetes, Docker, or other containerization technologies.
β’ AWS, Azure, or GCP experience.
β’ Experience working in finance or fintech.
β’ Technical understanding of crypto and digital assets.
β’ Familiarity with asynchronous and reactive software patterns.
β’ Familiarity with domain-driven design and event-driven architectures.
β’ Experience with reactive frameworks/toolkits such as Vert.x.
β’ Understanding of the Java threading model and concurrency-related concepts.

The base salary ranges included below will be commensurate with candidate experience, expertise and local market. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise. At Galaxy, we maintain a total compensation philosophy which consists of a competitive base salary, annual bonus, and equity incentives.
