Who you are:
We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking an Art Director who will be responsible for leading the creative vision and hands-on execution of Geotab Connect — our flagship global user conference — and a full calendar of external events and trade shows. This is a rare opportunity to be both the strategic creative force and a practitioner who rolls up their sleeves alongside a talented design team. If you love transforming bold ideas into stunning visual experiences at scale, and are keen to join an industry leader — we would love to hear from you!
What you’ll do:
As an Art Director your key area of responsibility will be owning the end-to-end creative vision for Geotab Connect and the broader global events portfolio — including Connect Europe, internal events like Grow, and industry trade shows — making this a year-round, high-impact role. You will lead and mentor a team of three graphic designers (with the team anticipated to grow), providing hands-on art direction and doing design work yourself, ensuring every deliverable meets the highest standards of quality and brand consistency. You will translate complex business goals and big ideas into compelling visual narratives across signage and spatial branding, show floor assets, digital properties, social media, and mainstage keynote presentations.
To be successful in this role you will be an interdisciplinary creative leader who is equally at home setting direction as executing it — someone who brings clear, confident communication, a bias for asking questions before projects begin, and the judgment to move from exploration into production. In addition, the successful candidate will have the organizational instincts to track milestones proactively, partner effectively with the Senior Creative Operations Manager and Production Manager, and serve as the active creative voice in integrated planning calls with internal teams and external partners.
How you’ll make an impact:
• Lead the development and execution of the overarching design strategy for Geotab Connect and other internal and tradeshow events, ensuring seamless alignment with the corporate brand and a compelling experience for attendees.
• Function as a hands-on Art Director working on projects yourself and actively providing detailed guidance and direction to other designers, ensuring the team executes the vision to the expected standard of polish and quality.
• Translate complex business objectives and big ideas into insightful and innovative visual concepts and production-ready outcomes that are clear, compelling, visually exciting, engaging, and consistent with the overall package.
• Own the review process for all event-related design work: evaluate whether work meets strategic objectives, is polished and on-brand, and provide thorough, actionable art direction to internal designers and external resources.
• Take ownership of keeping creative development on track — maintain a high level of awareness of major milestones and deadlines for all event projects and proactively flag risks before they become issues.
• Maintain a consistent and proactive communication loop with creative and events leadership — use clear, timely updates to keep stakeholders informed and aligned, and surface ambiguities before project work begins.
• Lead spatial branding and wayfinding signage, show floor asset integration, digital and social media brand standards, and mainstage keynote visual storytelling across the global events portfolio.
What you’ll bring to this role:
• 10-12 years of experience in brand identity development, creative support for events, campaigns, and creative strategy.
•
3-5 years of supervisory/ leadership experience.
•
Bachelor of Design (BDes) is highly valued.
•
Strong design background with a hands-on creative leadership style — equally comfortable setting direction and executing design work yourself; portfolio demonstrating big-idea thinking and seamless execution across print, digital, environmental, and experiential design.
•
Proven experience managing, mentoring, and providing art direction to design teams.
•
Demonstrated ability to manage creative timelines: milestone ownership, deadline awareness, and the judgment to transition from exploration to production.
•
Expert knowledge of design specs and media requirements for print and digital applications; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and other industry-standard design tools.
•
Experience working both in-house and agency-side, with an understanding of performance metrics for visual design in a marketing or events context.
•
Proficiency in Google Suite, especially Google Slides and template building; experience and willingness to work with AI tools.
•
Motion graphics, animation, and/or video editing experience is an asset; familiarity with project management tools (Jira an asset)
If you got this far, we hope you're feeling excited about this role! Even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
