Position Summary
The Technical Writer plays a critical role in translating complex medical information into precise, evidence-based narratives that guide patients through the claims and benefits process with clarity and confidence. This position is responsible for producing comprehensive medical documentation that supports successful claim determinations while aligning patient expectations with medically and legally supportable outcomes.
Serving as both a subject-matter expert and patient advocate, the Technical Writer partners cross-functionally to uphold organizational excellence, ensure regulatory and documentation integrity, and drive high-quality outcomes for patients and stakeholders alike.
Key Responsibilities
Develop clear, thorough, and medically accurate narratives that synthesize clinical records, diagnostic evidence, and regulatory criteria
Analyze medical documentation to identify qualifying conditions and support claim eligibility and approval
Translate complex medical and technical information into accessible, patient-centered guidance
Maintain consistency, accuracy, and compliance across all written materials
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on documentation standards and case strategy
Foster patient engagement and trust through thoughtful, empathetic, and precise communication
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by refining documentation processes and best practices

Work Environment
This is a hybrid, onsite role based in Austin, Texas, requiring regular in-office collaboration.
Responsibilities
β’ Create medical and legal documentation with accuracy and a focus on fostering positive relationships with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders.
β’ Efficiently manage a high volume of claims on a weekly basis.
β’ Provide continuous support by reviewing patient records and identifying additional health issues to maximize benefits.
β’ Maintain high standards to build and sustain patient trust.
β’ Clearly communicate to ensure that patient expectations are aligned with what is realistically achievable.
β’ Apply technical skills to secure prompt and successful claim approvals.
β’ Foster patient satisfaction and engagement through effective communication and consistent support.
β’ Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
Qualifications
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Healthcare Administration, Biology, Nursing, Epidemiology, Public Health or related field preferred.
β’ A minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting is required, preferably in coordinating and managing patient documentation, medical writing, medical terminology, or in a healthcare administration role.
β’ Familiarity with healthcare programs and benefits, particularly the Department of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC) program, is preferred.
β’ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software is required.
