About the Role
We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer with deep expertise in Node.js, MongoDB, and distributed systems to join our WhatsApp Platform team. This role focuses on platform stability, scalability, reliability, and long-term technical excellence while scaling our messaging platform to handle millions of daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- →Stabilize and scale the platform by tackling systemic bottlenecks and ensuring high availability
- →Optimize resource usage and performance to handle millions of operations while reducing costs
- →Lead long-term refactoring efforts and modernize legacy systems with scalable patterns
- →Strengthen data protection, access controls, and compliance across the platform
- →Improve tooling, observability, and automation to accelerate engineering workflows
- →Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and cross-functional engineering teams
- →Guide engineers, set architectural standards, and drive the platform roadmap
Requirements
- ✓6+ years of backend engineering experience with fault-tolerant systems and high-scale platforms
- ✓Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processing
- ✓Strong experience with relational and NoSQL data models, especially complex temporal data
- ✓Proven track record of architecting complex systems and delivering scalable web apps in production
- ✓Strong understanding of software design patterns, API design, and microservices architecture
- ✓Skilled in guiding technical architecture and mentoring fellow engineers
- ✓Experience with code quality practices, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and dev tooling
- ✓Excellent problem-solving skills with clear and collaborative communication

- ✓Experience with AI tools and contributions to open-source tools or engineering blogs
- ✓Experience with modern front-end frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular
