About the Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Formula Engine team within Superhuman Docs. This role involves owning the computational backbone that powers millions of distinct user-built applications, focusing on the formula system that connects data across the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- →Lead and grow a team of 5+ engineers, providing mentorship and fostering a high-performance culture
- →Own the technical direction for the formula engine, from language design to execution planning and optimization
- →Drive improvements to formula execution to maintain responsiveness as document complexity scales
- →Build and refine evaluation frameworks to measure formula performance and reliability
- →Shape the formula language to enhance expressiveness and usability
- →Collaborate with product, design, and platform teams to ensure the formula engine enables new features
- →Balance foundational investments with pragmatic delivery
- →Define strategy for the formula engine's evolution as Superhuman Docs grows
Requirements
- ✓3+ years of engineering management experience leading teams of 5+ engineers
- ✓Deep technical experience in programming language implementation, query optimization, compiler design, or high-performance runtime systems
- ✓Experience with systems where correctness and performance are critical
- ✓Strong performance engineering skills
- ✓Experience managing foundational infrastructure consumed by many teams
- ✓Track record of managing ambiguity and making tradeoffs in fast-moving areas
- ✓Clear communication and influence across engineering, product, and design
- ✓Enthusiasm for building the invisible engine that makes a product feel magical
