Role Overview:
The Head of FP&A plays a pivotal role in shaping financial insight, performance management, and decision support across the business. This role owns the end-to-end planning and forecasting cycle, provides forward-looking insight to senior leadership, and ensures that commercial and operational decisions are grounded in robust financial analysis.

Acting as the central point of expertise for financial planning, performance reporting, and KPI management, the role works closely with department heads and the wider finance team to align strategy, resource allocation, and execution with the companyβs overall objectives.
What skills and working characteristics should this person have?
β’ Core Technical & Professional Skills
β’ Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA , CIMA or equivalent).
β’ Proven experience in relevant FP&A roles, ideally within an SME or high-growth environment.
β’ Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, and scenario modelling.
β’ Advanced financial analysis and reporting capability, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, decision-ready insight.
β’ High level of proficiency in Excel and financial modelling tools.
β’ Experience extracting, structuring, and analysing data from ERP, CRM, and accounting systems to support budgeting, forecasting, and performance insight. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics and Business Central preferred.
β’ Strong understanding of SaaS and professional service revenue models, including recurring and non-recurring billing (preferred).
β’ Strategic & Commercial Mindset
β’ Commercially astute, with the ability to connect financial outcomes to operational and strategic drivers.
β’ Confident in challenging assumptions, highlighting risks, and influencing decisions using data.

β’ Excellent communication skills, able to present financial insight clearly to senior leadership and non-finance stakeholders.

β’ Leadership & Ways of Working
β’ Experience leading, mentoring, and developing junior finance team members.

β’ Experience leading or project-managing change initiatives and driving process improvement across teams (preferred).
As a Head of FP&A youβll be responsible for:
β’ Financial Planning, Analysis & Reporting
β’ Own the weekly and monthly performance reporting processes, delivering clear, insightful analysis to senior management.
β’ Monitor financial performance against budget, forecast, and prior periods, identifying variances, risks, and opportunities.
β’ Develop and maintain KPI frameworks and dashboards that provide a clear view of business performance.
β’ Analyse billing and revenue data (recurring and non-recurring) to improve accuracy, insight, and underlying processes.
β’ Planning, Forecasting & Decision Support
β’ Alongside the CFO, prepare the annual budget and 3-to-5-year financial models, working closely with departmental leaders.
β’ Build and maintain robust financial models to support scenario analysis, investment decisions, and growth planning.
β’ Provide financial input into key strategic initiatives, business cases, and investment proposals.
β’ Support the business with KPI definition and target-setting as part of the planning process.
β’ Performance Insight & Business Engagement
β’ Act as the primary owner of financial insight for departments, ensuring leaders understand performance drivers and trade-offs.
β’ Deliver regular, forward-looking insight to support operational and strategic decision-making.
β’ Identify and drive opportunities for cost efficiency, margin improvement, and better resource allocation.
β’ Partner with the wider finance function to improve internal finance processes, controls, and reporting quality.
β’ Leadership & Team Development
β’ Lead and develop junior members of finance team, embedding best practice and analytical rigour.
β’ Provide guidance on complex financial issues, modelling, and performance analysis.
β’ Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and knowledge sharing within finance and across the organisation.
