Instructureβs Assessment Design Team is seeking an Academic Designer to support the Mastery Predictive Assessments Social Studies team in the development of assessment products through creating, reviewing, formatting, and revising test items and assessments built with these items. The ideal candidate will be someone with a background in teaching social studies on the middle or high school level that has a strong understanding of the knowledge, skills, and goals for secondary students as well as a passion for supporting teachers, schools, and districts in their efforts to improve student outcomes. Experience with different state standards and analysis of testing blueprints is desired. Strong social studies content knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects while adhering to deadlines are important for success in this role. The Academic Designer will report to Instructureβs Senior Manager of Assessment Design.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work independently and collaboratively with the social studies team to create, review, format, and revise test items based on state social studies standards and grade-level appropriateness to meet internal and external deadlines.
- Design well-rounded assessments to meet customer needs.
- Review assessments at multiple grade levels and content areas.
- Align social studies items to state standards for multiple states.
- Resolve and respond to customer feedback.
- Participate in creation of curriculum documents such as pacing guides and sample questions.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelorβs degree in social studies education.
- Minimum 2-3 yearsβ experience as a social studies teacher on the middle or high school level.
- Strong understanding of social studies curriculum expectations and state learning standards (expertise in U.S. History and Civics/Government content preferred).
- Critical thinker and problem solver who appropriately gives and receives constructive feedback.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Experience working with student assessment content products, including test item banks and standardized assessments preferred.
- Proficiency in working with new software and performing a variety of tasks on the computer.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products and G-Suite (experience with Slack and Smartsheet is a plus).
- Ability to maintain a strict code of integrity, confidentiality, and discretion.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and disciplined work style.
