The Opportunity:
Lead the frontline of cyber defence of one of New Zealand’s most trusted professional services firms. KPMG New Zealand is seeking a Security Operations Lead to take charge of our Security Operations Centre (SOC) and guide a team of talented SOC Analysts in protecting our organisation and clients from ever‑evolving cyber threats.
This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who enjoys being close to the action - serving as the primary point of escalation for frontline security operations, mentoring analysts, and continuously improving how security operations are delivered.

Day to day you will:
• Lead day‑to‑day Security Operations, ensuring consistent delivery, timely threat response, and protection of the Firm’s systems, data and services.
• Ensure security tools, monitoring capabilities and threat detection activities are effective and fit for purpose, with priorities set to reduce attack surface and strengthen operational effectiveness.
• Lead security incident response and advanced threat analysis, ensuring insights, patterns and lessons learned are translated into improved controls, informed decision‑making and reduced future risk.
• Ensure processes, controls and playbooks are embedded, consistently applied and regularly reviewed, using insights to drive continuous improvement and strengthen operational resilience.
About you:
• At least 5 years’ experience as a SOC Analyst or Team Lead.
• Tertiary qualification in either Computer Science, Software Engineering or Cyber Security.
• Industry certifications such as CISM, ISC2 SSCP, or equivalent.
• Experience with using and managing SIEM, SOAR and SOC Tools.
• Ability to execute effective threat hunting to enable incident response capabilities.
• Experience writing and security incident response findings through reports.
• A fundamental understanding of Security Operations Centre including general purpose, approaches, and methodologies.
• Ability to lead a team and identify growth and development opportunities for their team.
• Ability to provide strategic advice, guidance, and input to our business leaders to support a broad range of objectives.
• Ability to build strong relationships across our firm.
• Uses data and insights to enhance performance.
