Role Overview
The Customer Insights Data Analyst, reports to the Senior Data Analyst. The split is deliberate: 70% data analysis, 30% UX research support. You'll own quantitative work; Python or R pipelines, Looker dashboards, segmentation, cohort analysis, survey design and administration while also supporting the qualitative side: hypothesis development, thematic coding, and mixed-methods studies. It's a genuinely hybrid role, and that's by design.

ABOUT US
M-KOPA is a connected asset financing platform that has extended over $2 billion in credit to more than 7 million customers across Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa. 55% of those customers are accessing financial services for the first time. 86% report an improved quality of life. The Customer Insights team is the intelligence engine behind the product decisions that make those numbers move and they're looking for a data analyst who brings both quantitative rigour and qualitative instinct to the work.

This is a hybrid role, you would be working from our offices in Kenya, partnering with a diverse group of employees from our different markets and locations across the UK, Europe and Africa. You will be reporting to the Senior Data Analyst.
Why this Role is Different
Most analyst roles put you downstream of decisions. Here, you're upstream of them. The CI team's outputs directly shape product strategy across five markets. You'll be translating messy, real-world data into exec-level clarity and you'll be doing it for a business where the findings have genuine stakes. You're not producing reports. You're producing the intelligence that determines what gets built, who for, and when.
What You'll be doing
- Building and maintaining dashboards in Looker that track customer behaviour across five African markets; running segmentation, cohort, and A/B analyses in Python or R; designing, deploying, and managing surveys end-to-end using Survey To Go including fieldwork coordination and data cleaning pipelines.
- Coding and tagging qualitative data using approved thematic frameworks, contributing to AI-assisted coding tools, and supporting hypothesis development before qualitative research begins so the quantitative and qualitative work genuinely talk to each other.
- Translating findings into exec-level outputs; charts, dashboards, summary slides and occasionally travelling to M-KOPA markets for in-field data collection; all while handling PII in line with M-KOPA policy and applicable national law.
What You'll bring
- Demonstrable experience in a data analyst or mixed-methods research role, with a track record of producing outputs that non-technical stakeholders actually use and act on.
- Hands-on Looker capability - building dashboards from scratch, not just maintaining existing ones alongside working Python or R skills and familiarity with field survey tools in low-connectivity environments.
- Some UX research exposure: you understand how qualitative data gets coded, what a usability study involves, and why the 70/30 split in this role is a feature, not a compromise.
The honest part
This is a small, high-trust team. You'll have real responsibilities from day one and genuine room to improve how they're done. The work spans five markets, involves real customer data, and feeds directly into product decisions. That's energising if you're ready for it โ and probably not the right fit if you're looking for a role where you can stay in your lane.
