Role Overview
The Linux Support Engineer is responsible for the stability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technology systems within Man Technology. Working across Research, Investment Management, and Operations, the engineer serves as a trusted technical partner - owning issues end-to-end, driving service quality, and collaborating closely with Quants, Traders, Operations Officers, and Engineering teams.
This is a shift-based role, currently operating 1:00pm β 10:00pm EEST, with the expectation that shift patterns may evolve over time in line with business needs.
Role Responsibilities
Support & Operations
β’ Provide 1st and 2nd line support for Linux-based systems (CentOS/Ubuntu), ensuring timely resolution of incidents and service requests
β’ Monitor critical systems proactively, anticipating and resolving issues before they impact users
β’ Own issues from inception to resolution, maintaining clear communication with stakeholders throughout
β’ Triage team and personal queues effectively β acknowledging users, assessing priority, and setting accurate expectations
Infrastructure & Engineering
β’ Build and configure new Linux virtual machines using Terraform and Ansible
β’ Support and troubleshoot containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes
β’ Administer and support a broad technology stack including Citrix, Vault, Keycloak, Git, and related platforms
Stakeholder Management
β’ Act as a trusted partner to research users, Quants, and Traders β managing technical relationships with professionalism and clarity
β’ Escalate complex issues to specialist teams where appropriate, ensuring continuity of service
β’ Collaborate with other tech support teams to develop and improve shared services
Service Improvement
β’ Champion ongoing Service Improvement initiatives to raise quality and user satisfaction
β’ Develop longer-term solutions to recurring problems, reducing ticket volume and toil
β’ Promote and adhere to best practices across Man Technology
β’ Ensure all IT services meet defined SLA targets
Key Competencies
Required
β’ Strong hands-on experience with Linux OS, preferably Ubuntu and/or CentOS
β’ Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and/or OpenStack
β’ Practical experience with Terraform and/or Ansible
β’ Scripting and automation skills in Python and/or Bash
β’ Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and root cause analysis capabilities
β’ Ability to engage effectively with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
