The Mark43 law enforcement platform delivers mission-critical services to agencies across the country. When our systems are unavailable, real-world safety is impacted. As a Platform Engineer, you will take ownership of critical platform capabilities that ensure our systems are reliable, scalable, and equally important: enable engineers to build, deploy, and operate software with speed and confidence.
In this role, you will operate at the intersection of platform engineering and developer experience (DevEx). You will design and evolve internal platforms as products, reducing friction across the software development lifecycle while maintaining strong standards for reliability, security, and compliance.
While this role includes opportunities to work on observability systems, prior experience in observability platforms is not required - we value engineers who can learn quickly and apply strong platform fundamentals.
Youβll use tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, and DataDogt o build scalable platform primitives and improve developer workflows across the organization.
What youβll work on
β’ Owning and evolving Mark43's internal developer platform, focusing on reliability, scalability, and developer productivity
β’ Building self-service platform capabilities (Infrastructure-as-Code modules, GitOps workflows, golden paths, and onboarding templates)
β’ Improving developer experience (DevEx) by reducing friction in local development, CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and debugging workflows
β’ Designing and optimizing pipeline-as-code systems to improve build performance, reliability, and feedback cycles
β’ Driving adoption of GitOps and Infrastructure as Code best practices across the organization
β’ Leading initiatives to improve operational excellence, including system reliability, resilience, and incident response
β’ Partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Security teams to align platform capabilities with business needs
β’ Owning and delivering large, cross-team platform initiatives that shape how engineers build and operate software at MARK43
β’ Participating in a shared on-call rotation to support critical infrastructure
What we expect from you
β’ 5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, and/or Developer Experience
β’ Strong experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures
β’ Deep experience with Kubernetes and containerized systems
β’ Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and GitOps (e.g., ArgoCD)
β’ Experience building and optimizing CI/CD systems and pipeline-as-code workflows
β’ Demonstrated ability to improve developer experience and platform usability at scale.
β’ Strong systems thinking, including tradeoffs between reliability, cost, and developer velocity
β’ Understanding of security and compliance best practices in cloud environments

β’ Exposure to FinOps practices and cost optimization
β’ Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into developer workflows, such as:

β’ Automated incident summaries or developer assistants
β’ Knowledge of compliance and data governance requirements in regulated environments

Location
Our team is distributed across the United States, with offices in New York, Boston, and Manchester, UK. We are a remote-friendly company and support candidates working from approved states.
Compensation
We believe in equal pay for equal work and transparency in compensation. Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a base salary range of $140,000β$170,000, plus bonus, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package.
