Your Role
As a Design Quality Engineer at Munich Electrification, you ensure the uncompromising quality and compliance of our hardware products throughout their entire development lifecycleβfrom initial concept through to post-launch product care. You will bridge the gap between hardware design and testing, acting as the definitive Subject Matter Expert (SME) for system integration, safety compliance (FMEDA, WCCA), and overall design quality for our innovative automotive battery components and circuit boards. You are responsible for planning design control deliverables, ensuring that robust design guidelines are strictly followed, actively participating in major design and milestone reviews, and representing the hardware team during internal and external audits to ensure strict adherence to all quality and regulatory standards.
Your future tasks at a glance
- Design Control & Robustness Oversight: Plan and support the execution of all design control deliverables throughout the product development lifecycle and into post-launch "product care" activities. Oversee hardware quality from initial Altium circuit design and component selection to final manufacturing release, actively highlighting and ensuring that robust design guidelines are rigorously followed.
- Design and Milestone Reviews: Participate actively inβand often leadβdesign reviews, structured design handovers, and project milestone reviews to ensure that quality requirements, system integration needs, and modular reusability standards are met at every stage.
- Safety, Compliance & Standards: Ensure that all product development outputs and processes adhere to internal quality standards and external automotive regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 26262, ASPICE, LV 124). Drive critical hardware safety work products, including FMEDA reports, Worst-Case Circuit Analysis (WCCA), and insulation coordination.
- Audit and Inspection Support: Act as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) during all internal and external audits and quality inspections. Provide the necessary support, traceability documentation, and evidence to prove process compliance and product robustness.
- Testing, Validation & Cross-Functional Support: Manage the design, execution, and analysis of engineering, validation, and production tests (including EMC pre-compliance and EOL testing). Act as the central technical interface to resolve quality and manufacturing issues alongside Systems, Industrialization, and Operations.
What you bring with you
- Educational Background: degree (Bachelor, Master, or equivalent) in Material Engineering, Physics, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
- Communication & Presentation: Excellent English skills combined with great communication and presentation abilities, essential for leading major design reviews and defending processes during audits.
- Analytical Mindset: Strong critical, creative, and rational thinking skills to solve complex system integration challenges and evaluate design trade-offs.
- Automotive Standards Expertise: Deep understanding of automotive quality, reliability, and functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, ASPICE, AEC-Q100, IPC-A-610).
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Proven experience driving structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa) for manufacturing defects, field returns, and failed tests.
- EDA & Hardware Tool Proficiency: Practical experience with Electronic Design Automation tools (specifically Altium Designer) and component lifecycle management to effectively review schematics and layouts.
