Salary: up to CA$220,000. Plus Short Term Incentive Bonus and Equity

THE ROLE
Neo Financial is looking for high-impact engineering leadership to join our Calgary office as Senior, Staff, and Principal Developers..
At Neo you will collaborate with other talented devs, deliver high quality code and build exciting products and features. You‘ll work on architecture, front and back-end code while fostering best practices like, automated testing, code reviews, and continuous delivery. You’ll work with cutting edge tools and patterns. Our technology stack is built using a Microservices architecture and comprises TypeScript, Node.js, Serverless framework, GraphQL, MongoDB, all hosted on AWS.
We’re super-charging our developers with AI, leveraging tools like Github Copilot and Cursor to fuel rapid development, and building our own agentic systems with Gemini to empower our teams.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
The below summaries responsibilities that captures the technical depth of a Senior role and the strategic influence of the Staff/Principal levels:
- Architectural Leadership: Drive the evolution of our microservices architecture (TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, MongoDB) by designing resilient systems that leverage idempotency, asynchronous communication, and distributed transactions.
- System Design & Strategy: Shape the technical roadmap by leading high-level planning, creating proposals for new technologies, and staying ahead of industry trends to integrate cutting-edge design patterns.
- Engineering Excellence: Set and uphold the gold standard for software quality by advocating for best practices in automated testing, deployment, and constructive, in-depth code reviews.
- Complex Problem Solving: Anticipate technical blockers and navigate high-complexity challenges, providing robust solutions that balance immediate delivery with long-term scalability.
- Mentorship & Influence: Lead by example through pair programming and active mentorship, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high performance across the entire engineering organization.Process Innovation: Drive the adoption of advanced development workflows, from refining our CI/CD pipelines to pioneering the use of AI-driven agentic systems.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Deep Technical Expertise: A seasoned engineer with 6+ years (Senior) to 9+ years (Staff/Principal) of experience building complex, end-to-end web applications with a focus on scalability and performance optimization.
- Backend Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of backend systems, including APIs, queues, security, and business logic. You are comfortable navigating concepts like coupling/cohesion, idempotency, distributed transactions, and event sourcing.
- Architectural Fluency: A strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals and code design, with the ability to drive technical planning and communicate complex architectural visions to cross-functional teams.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS preferred), including serverless systems, containerization, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Data Versatility: Proficiency with diverse data stores and database paradigms (NoSQL experience is a significant plus).
- Agile Collaboration: Proven ability to thrive within large engineering organizations, effectively managing projects that span multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Continuous Learner: Mastery of at least one or two programming languages, paired with a relentless curiosity to adopt new tools, such as AI-driven development and agentic systems.
- Location: Must be eligible to work in Canada and willing to relocate to Calgary (Relocation packages and reimbursements available).
