We are a global team of innovators and pioneers dedicated to shaping the future of observability. At New Relic, we build an intelligent platform that empowers companies to thrive in an AI-first world by giving them unparalleled insight into their complex systems. As we continue to expand our global footprint, we're looking for passionate people to join our mission. If you're ready to help the world's best companies optimize their digital applications, we invite you to explore a career with us!
Your Opportunity
Organizations around the world depend on New Relic to help them build better software using data, not opinions. Logs are one of the fundamental pillars of New Relicβs observability platform. Thousands of New Relic customers rely on their logs to detect and resolve issues by analyzing many petabytes of data sent via a wide variety of logging integrations.
As a Lead (Staff) Engineer for the Logging Integrations group, you will be the technical cornerstone of the team responsible for the "front door" of New Relic's logging experience. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader who remains deeply embedded in the code while providing strategic direction across complex, high-scale architectures. If you are passionate about observability, love mentoring engineers, and thrive on turning architectural ambiguity into reliable production systems, we want to talk to you.
What youβll do
β’ Hands-on Technical Leadership: Define and influence the technical strategy for logging integrations while remaining "keyboard-active." You will design, build, and optimize scalable data integration services and tools capable of handling massive throughput.
β’ Drive Solutions from Ambiguity: Lead the charge in high-uncertainty environments. You will collaborate with Product Managers, Principal Engineers, and cross-functional teams to translate abstract business needs into concrete, high-impact technical roadmaps.
β’ Raise the Engineering Bar: Lead by example through high-standard code reviews, rigorous design docs, and the implementation of engineering best practices. You aren't just a participant; you are a "bar raiser" for technical excellence across the department.
β’ Mentorship & Culture Building: Actively mentor engineers across all levels. You will foster a culture of continuous learning by giving tech talks, leading workshops, and sharing knowledge that levels up the entire groupβs engineering craft.
β’ Collaborative Problem Solving: Maintain a "zero-ego" approach to engineering. You will pair program with engineers of all levels, tackling everything from high-level architecture to deep-seated performance bottlenecks in production.
β’ Full-Stack Thinking: While your core is high-volume backend/systems engineering, you will leverage your experience with Front-End domains to ensure a seamless end-to-end user experience, contributing to or leading front-end initiatives when necessary.
β’ Modern SRE & Reliability: Move beyond basic CI/CD. You will be responsible for the health of your systems, using modern observability tools to proactively identify and resolve reliability, latency, and performance issues.
This role requires
β’ Hands-on Mastery: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience. You must be highly proficient in Java/Go, with a track record of delivering robust, production-grade code in both.
β’ Cloud & Infrastructure Expertise: Deep understanding of public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). You are highly proficient in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation.
β’ Proven Architectural Impact: Experience leading the design and delivery of highly reliable, scalable distributed systems. You have built and maintained major components that handle significant data volume.
β’ Full-Stack Versatility: Meaningful experience with Full Stack development, including a history of delivering/working on Front-End projects. You should have a genuine interest in the UI/UX layer of the product.
β’ Observability Native: Deep expertise in the SRE/Observability space. You have used (and ideally built) observability tools to solve complex reliability or performance issues in distributed environments.
β’ Communication & Influence: The ability to drive consensus across teams and influence technical direction through clear communication and strong technical justification.
Bonus points if you have
β’ Open Source Pedigree: You are an active contributor to the Fluent Bit, Fluentd, or OpenTelemetry ecosystems.
β’ Cloud-Native Depth: Hands-on experience with Helm, Kubernetes Operators, and cloud-native logging drivers (e.g., AWS FireLens).
β’ Data Integration Expertise: Experience working on data integration or ingestion products, specifically within the SaaS vendor or telemetry space.
β’ High-Throughput Pipelines: Experience building real-time tools to collect, process, and ship log data at a petabyte scale.
