We are now looking for a software leader for the teams building the core Oura user experience and Health Intelligence.
As Director of Software Engineering, you will shape and execute the roadmap and strategy that fuels Ouraβs growth and great user experience. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, Health OS, youβll grow and lead several distributed engineering teams, drive the development and execution of our engineering strategy, and focus on delivering delightful user experiences and innovative health intelligence. You'll play a critical role in fostering a culture of quality and operational excellence, and ensuring our product roadmap aligns with company objectives.
You will lead teams in the intersection of user experience and AI, which we call Core UX and Health Intelligence. Core UX is responsible for the Oura mobile appβs structure, information hierarchy, design system and system-level capabilities, while Health Intelligence focuses on the making sense of health data with AI, including the integration of GenAI into the Oura product.

What Youβll Do
β’ Lead and scale the team β Grow a high-performing software organization ranging from mobile and backend engineers to AI/LLM Engineers and engineering managers.
β’ Set direction for the product β Together with the Product, Design, Science and Data science leaders, set direction for the Health Intelligence platform and Core UX, with a particular focus on the AI/ML platform,innovation, trust, and personalized and intelligent user experience.
β’ Build the Health Intelligence platform β Evolve the platform powering Oura Insights and Advisor with AI and machine learning -powered tech stack.
β’ Build delightful and consistent user experiences β Together with Design, build and evolve the Oura user experience and build system capabilities for other teams to innovate on.
β’ Drive a data- and AI-driven culture β Measure what matters, build hypotheses, validate with data and leverage AI for innovation and efficiency.
β’ Operate the software systems β Ensure the product is available when the people need it with efficient operations.
β’ Collaborate at the highest levels β Partner with other product and business leaders, as well as other stakeholders, to deliver exceptional value to Oura members.
β’ Bring your leadership to the software team β As part of the software leadership team, shape the direction of the technology strategy and organization.
Requirements
We would love to consider you for this role if you have:
β’ Proven Software Leadership β Demonstrated success in leading diverse, geographically-distributed teams, adept at navigating the complexities of multiple locations and time zones effectively.
β’ AI / ML Platform Leadership β Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams that build and operate AI/ML platforms for data-rich products (e.g., recommendation systems, personalization engines, conversational AI, or digital health), including model serving, feature pipelines, and evaluation frameworks.
β’ People-First Management β 5+ years of experience hiring, developing, and scaling software teams, including managing managers, Principal ICs and fostering leadership growth.
β’ Vision and Execution β A track record of driving impact through software products, from roadmap planning to execution.
β’ Mobile Apps β Experience owning the architecture and evolution of large-scale mobile apps on iOS and Android (navigation, design systems, shared components)
β’ Data-Driven Development β Youβve embedded analytics into the product and know how to use data for decision-making.
β’ Cloud Infrastructure β Expertise in cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure and practical experience designing, operating, and optimizing GenAI integrations or LLM-based systems (e.g., model provider selection, latency & cost tradeoffs, safety policies, observability) and familiarity with GenAI providers like OpenAI, Google and Anthropic..

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
