Ouraβs engineering organization consists of talented developers distributed across the EU and US. For day-to-day feature work, our engineers are organized into smaller cross-functional feature squads or teams. Our squads have a great deal of autonomy and are responsible for the development and architecture of their features. Squads take full ownership of their code and handle everything from concepting, design and implementation to release, maintenance and bug fixes.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our SRE Squad. The team is responsible for governance and observability of the Oura Cloud Platform running on AWS infrastructure. We combine the power of the Oura Ring and the app with backend services and integrations to provide a data-rich and secure cloud platform. Our APIs power most Oura apps, services and machine learning components. Reliability and scalability of the cloud platform provide the technical foundation for our growth.
This is an on-site (Helsinki, Oulu) or remote Finland-based role.
You will:
β’ Develop and maintain the capabilities of our cloud platform by identification and building of new global services and scaling of the existing infrastructure.
β’ This role presents a great opportunity to impact the evolution of Ouraβs Cloud Platform to support the needs of our wider customer offering and international expansion.
β’ Lead building of new core services, such as our centralized messaging system and CI/CD tooling, implement observability and fault tolerance for the new cloud platform components.
β’ Maintaining and modernizing existing core services related to e.g. user identity, data and configuration management; making them scale with our very rapid user growth and rearchitecting them to more isolated services.
β’ Produce high-quality documentation for your work.
β’ As an SRE Squad member, participate in running, monitoring and debugging issues within our cloud-based production systems.
β’ Test and release code in a fast and reliable manner using our deployment and dependency management tools. Contribute improvements to the tooling.
We would love to have you on our team if you:
β’ Have experience in building and maintaining customer-facing, public cloud services at scale.
β’ Have a mentality of life-long learning and interest in further developing your skills in this domain.
β’ Know how to design for scale and growth, prepare for user demand peaks, and build fault-tolerant, secure systems.
β’ Have experience running, monitoring and debugging production systems at scale on AWS. (We run our services on AWS infrastructure, using key AWS technologies like EKS, ECS, DynamoDB, Aurora RDS, S3 and SQS.)
β’ Have a pragmatic can-do attitude and delivery-focused mindset, and can make reasonable tradeoffs between short-term goals and managing long-term tech debt.
β’ Have solid programming skills in at least one of Python, TypeScript and/or some other languages, as well as capability to work with AI tools to produce and validate code.
β’ Have a good understanding of database management (SQL, especially PostgreSQL).
