About Ping Identity:
At Ping Identity, we believe in making digital experiences both secure and seamless for all users, without compromise. We call this digital freedom. And it's not just something we provide our customers. It's something that inspires our company. People don't come here to join a culture that's built on digital freedom. They come to cultivate it.
Our intelligent, cloud identity platform lets people shop, work, bank, and interact wherever and however they want. Without friction. Without fear.
While protecting digital identities is at the core of our technology, protecting individual identities is at the core of our culture. We champion every identity. One of our core values, Respect Individuality, reminds us to celebrate differences so you are empowered to bring your authentic self to work.
We're headquartered in Denver, Colorado and we have offices and employees around the globe. We serve the largest, most demanding enterprises worldwide, including more than half of the Fortune 100. At Ping Identity, we're changing the way people and businesses think about cybersecurity, digital experiences, and identity and access management.
Staff Software Engineer, Android
Youβll be a staff technical engineer on our mobile team, owning major parts of our Android SDKs and shaping how we build, ship, and maintain high-quality mobile experiences. This is a hands-on role focused on designing and delivering scalable, reliable Android features while partnering closely with Product, Design, Backend, QA, and other stakeholders. Youβll set technical direction for Android architecture, drive best practices across the codebase, and help the team move faster with better tooling and foundations. Youβll be expected to deliver complex work end-to-end, from discovery and design to implementation, release, and iteration based on real user feedback. Youβll report to an engineering manager and collaborate with other engineers to align mobile strategy with broader platform goals.
You Will:
β’ Own the design and delivery of high-impact Android features and platform improvements, from concept through production release
β’ Drive Android architecture decisions (modularization, navigation, state management, dependency injection) and document tradeoffs clearly
β’ Build and maintain clean, testable code using modern Android development practices (Kotlin, Jetpack, Coroutines/Flow, MVVM or similar)
β’ Partner with Product and Design to scope work into iterative milestones, balancing user value, performance, and technical maintainability
β’ Ensure app quality through robust testing (unit, integration, UI), code reviews, and release readiness (crash monitoring, performance profiling)
β’ Collaborate cross-functionally with Backend/API teams to define contracts, handle edge cases, and deliver resilient user experiences
β’ Improve developer velocity by upgrading tooling, CI/CD, build times, and shared mobile foundations (design system components, analytics, logging)
β’ Mentor and level up other engineers through technical guidance, pairing, and thoughtful feedback in reviews and design discussions
You Have:
β’ 10+ years of professional Android development experience delivering production mobile applications at scale
β’ Strong Kotlin proficiency and deep experience with modern Android frameworks (Jetpack Compose and/or Views, Lifecycle, ViewModel, Navigation)
β’ Proven ability to design and evolve Android app architecture for maintainability, scalability, and long-term team productivity
β’ Solid understanding of concurrency and async patterns on Android (Coroutines, Flow, threading, structured concurrency)
β’ Experience integrating REST APIs, handling offline/poor-network scenarios, and building robust data layers (SQLite, caching)
β’ Strong testing discipline, including unit testing and UI testing, plus familiarity with release practices and play store deployment
β’ Ability to lead technical projects end-to-end, coordinating with stakeholders and driving decisions through ambiguity
β’ A degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience
Bonus Points If You Have:
β’ Team lead experience (e.g., acting as mobile tech lead, mentoring multiple engineers, coordinating delivery across a squad)
β’ Experience with Jetpack Compose at scale (design systems, performance optimization, accessibility, advanced animations)
β’ Background in performance optimization (startup time, jank reduction, memory/leak detection) and crash reduction programs
β’ Experience implementing and improving CI/CD for Android (build caching, test automation, release trains, feature flags, phased rollouts)
β’ Familiarity with mobile security best practices (secure storage, authentication flows, certificate pinning, threat modeling)
β’ Experience with multi-module builds, shared libraries, or cross-platform coordination (e.g., aligning Android/iOS feature parity)
β’ Knowledge of Decentralized Identity (DCI) and Identity & Access Management (IAM) concepts, including auth patterns like OAuth/OIDC
