As an IT Network Engineer II, you will be part of the IT Network Engineering team.  You will be responsible for managing and maintaining our organization's network infrastructure, including outages or other unplanned events. Your experience supporting, troubleshooting, and maintaining a sophisticated and complex global network is crucial to ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our enterprise. This role will work with the other Engineering staff worldwide as our third line of escalation to ensure our critical commercial systems remain stable and operational. This role will have discretion on enterprise-wide system changes and autonomy to impact change across the business. The role requires a breadth and depth of IT networking experience such that operational stability is achieved despite volatility, ambiguity, and uncertainty.  Â

As a subject matter expert (SME), you will be a critical partner in helping to develop and execute an enterprise-wide network strategy and roadmap that is aligned and positioned to innovate and deliver compelling business value on a global scale.  Through partnership within and outside of IT, you will work to ensure stakeholders have access to our systems and services whenever and wherever they need them. Â

You will be supported by a global IT organization, providing cutting-edge solutions and services to scientific teams to increase collaboration, productivity, and development of quantum software, applications, and hardware which will have a future impact on our everyday lives. Previous experience in an engineering role as part of a high-performing team is preferred. A natural desire to collaborate, mentor, and exceed end-user expectations is ideal for this position.Â
Key Responsibilities:
•
Install, rack, cable, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, wireless, and other network devices in data center and on-premises environments.
•
Monitor network performance and respond to alerts or service disruptions.
•
Troubleshoot routine network issues escalated from IT support teams and provide after-hours support.
•
Support vulnerability assessments and implement necessary measures to enhance network security.
•
Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations and operational procedures.
•
Collaborate with senior engineers on network upgrades and infrastructure improvements.
•
Travel to other sites within the scope of your duties (U.S. based sites, and very occasionally to Asia-Pacific and U.K.) as necessary, to ensure project delivery, oversight, and team mentorship.

Ability to respond to, coordinate, and resolve after-hours events or crises.
YOU MUST HAVE:
•
High School Diploma/ GED minimum required
•
3+ years’ experience working in a Network Engineer role or equivalent experience in supporting enterprise networks and switch infrastructure internationally.
•
3+ years’ experience working as a network engineer supporting firewall hardware/software with a global footprint, minimum required.
•
3+ years of experience working as a network engineer supporting layer 2 switching infrastructure, including VLANs, trunking, and port configurations minimum required.
•
3+ years’ experience physically installing network devices, including switches, routers, and patch panels, including running, terminating, and testing cables to ensure optimal connectivity and performance minimum required.
•
Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
•
Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
WE VALUE:
•
Associate’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field and/or equivalent formal training
•
Relevant network certifications are highly desired.
•
Extensive experience (3+ years) in network administration, with a focus on enterprise-level environments.
•
Strong knowledge of network protocols, topologies, and security principles (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN, ACLs, etc.).
•
Practical experience working within a public cloud provider (Azure, AWS, etc.) and ISPs and a strong desire to learn and innovate.
•
Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless) from leading manufacturers (Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto, etc.).
•
Adept skills with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (SolarWinds, Wireshark, SNMP, etc.).
•
Experience with scripting and automation, preferably using (Python, Perl, etc.) to support network configuration, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
•
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
•
Ability to document procedures and design workflows to improve workplace support.
•
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
•
Willingness to be flexible in meeting the demands of a fast-moving business.
