The Social Engineering team is building Robinhood's social trading platform β a feed-based experience where traders share insights, follow one another, and discover market-moving information in real time.The team partners closely with product, design, and data teams to deliver reliable, intuitive experiences that support customer growth and retention. Youβll help shape how millions of users interact with financial products in a more connected way!
As an Engineering Manager for the Social team, you will lead a group of engineers building core social trading features. You will set technical direction, drive execution against product goals, and ensure systems meet reliability and performance standards. You will partner cross-functionally to define priorities, translate product needs into technical plans, and deliver end product. You will also grow engineers through feedback, goal-setting, and career planning.
This role is based in our New York, NY office, with in-person attendance expected at least 4 days per week.
What you'll do
β’ Lead a team building and scaling social interactions, content feeds, and user discovery features
β’ Set and communicate clear technical direction aligned with product strategy, holding a high bar for quality, performance, and maintainability
β’ Partner cross-functionally with design, product, data, machine learning, and safety teams to shape the social experience
β’ Drive architectural decisions and foster a culture of high-quality code and strong engineering processes
β’ Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment where engineers across levels can grow, take ownership, and do their best work
β’ Support engineers through hiring, onboarding, performance feedback, and career development
What you bring
β’ 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
β’ 2+ years of engineering management experience leading product-focused engineering teams
β’ Strong foundation in building consumer-facing products at scale, with experience working through the stack
β’ Deep understanding of web architecture and best practices for building modular, scalable systems within large, evolving codebases
β’ Experience building and operating distributed systems that handle high traffic or real-time data
β’ Proven ability to grow engineers across levels through mentorship, feedback, and clear expectations
β’ An execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating ambiguity and delivering results
β’ Clear communication with both technical and non-technical partners

In addition to the base pay range listed below, this role is also eligible for bonus opportunities + equity + benefits.
Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected base pay range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones.
