About the Role
We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join Robinhood’s Trading Tools team. This role involves leading the technical direction of Robinhood’s trading tools, including systems that power the front page of the app. You’ll help define how trading depth, real-time data, and personalization come together in a fast, intuitive, and trusted experience.
Key Responsibilities
- →Own the technical vision and execution for a highly visible, mission-critical area of Robinhood’s trading experience
- →Design, build, and operate core services that power Portfolio, Watchlists, and Stock Detail pages
- →Design and evolve high-performance, low-latency systems for real-time trading and market data
- →Remain hands-on, writing production code and leading complex implementations
- →Lead the integration of AI-driven capabilities into core trading workflows
- →Drive technical excellence across reliability, correctness, observability, and security
- →Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through design reviews and architecture discussions
- →Influence platform direction beyond your immediate team
Requirements
- ✓10+ years of experience building and operating large-scale, distributed systems
- ✓Expertise in backend development using Go, Python, or Java
- ✓3+ years leading large-scale technical initiatives
- ✓Strong grasp of system design, data modeling, and software engineering fundamentals
- ✓Proven ability to simplify complex problems and drive alignment across stakeholders
- ✓Strong ownership mindset with a track record of delivering high-impact outcomes
- ✓Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing engineers
