About the Role
Roblox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the database team, responsible for developing the next-generation, multi-tenant database platform that scales globally. You will shape the architecture and build critical database capabilities to ensure fast, reliable, and efficient services.
Key Responsibilities
- →Design and implement new engine features including indexing, storage formats, WAL and replication protocols, sharding, and query-planner enhancements
- →Evolve the control plane for elastic scaling, autonomous healing, and zero-downtime schema or tenant moves
- →Profile and optimize critical code paths using advanced performance tooling
- →Establish engineering best practices through design reviews, performance benchmarks, and post-incident retrospectives
- →Automate testing, CI/CD, rollout safety, observability, and autoscaling
- →Mentor engineers and foster database craftsmanship
- →Engage with the open-source community on Postgres, RocksDB, and related ecosystems
Requirements
- ✓3+ years of experience in software engineering
- ✓Deep experience with large-scale distributed databases or storage engines
- ✓Expertise in database internals and strong skills in C/C++, GO, or Rust
- ✓Hands-on experience with consensus algorithms and multi-region replication models
- ✓Proven success shipping high-QPS, low-latency services on container orchestration stacks
- ✓Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into a clear technical roadmap
- ✓Passion for automation, testing, and data-driven decision-making
