About the Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join SandboxAQ's AI Simulation (AISim) division. This role involves leading backend engineers responsible for core functionalities, APIs, and data planes that power R&D efforts in biopharma and advanced materials.
Key Responsibilities
- →Lead and mentor a high-performing team of backend engineers, managing career development and fostering a culture of continuous growth.
- →Orchestrate execution by managing sprint ceremonies and planning meetings to align team efforts with strategic product goals.
- →Maintain quality by managing tech debt and evaluating tradeoffs between durable software and prototypes.
- →Disentangle dependencies and schedules to optimize delivery predictability.
- →Drive technical decision-making for the AISim simulation and data platform, ensuring solutions are maintainable, scalable, and secure.
- →Collaborate cross-functionally with researchers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate scientific requirements into technical deliverables.
- →Maintain technical excellence through code reviews, critical design decisions, and establishing best practices for CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure.
Requirements
- ✓10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 4 years in management.
- ✓Proven track record of shipping high-quality software with sustained high velocity.
- ✓Experience leading teams building early-stage products and making planning decisions.
- ✓Deep understanding of software design principles, architectural patterns, and cloud-based SaaS products.
- ✓Strong experience with GCP (or another major cloud provider) including networking, compute, and container orchestration.
- ✓Demonstrated ability to manage complex data systems, including ORMs, schemas, and transactional vs. analytic databases.
- ✓Excellent communication skills to influence cross-functional teams and translate requirements into solutions.
