About the Role
We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to help scale the core systems behind our fantasy sports and DFS offerings. This role involves driving architectural decisions, building critical backend services, and mentoring fellow engineers as we scale to support millions of sports fans.
Key Responsibilities
- →Design and build core backend systems that power Sleeper's games and real-time user experiences
- →Architect scalable, distributed systems capable of handling millions of concurrent users
- →Lead backend initiatives from concept to deployment, ensuring clean interfaces and resilient infrastructure
- →Optimize system performance and proactively address bottlenecks
- →Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and frontend teams
- →Mentor engineers and shape backend engineering best practices
- →Drive innovation and technical direction at the leadership level
Requirements
- ✓7+ years of backend software engineering experience
- ✓Proven ability to design and scale distributed systems for gaming environments
- ✓Strong proficiency in backend languages like Go, Python, Node.js, or Java
- ✓Deep knowledge of databases, caching strategies, and message queues
- ✓Experience with RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs, data models, and internal tooling
- ✓Cloud experience with AWS, GCP, or similar platforms
- ✓Strong product mindset and excellent communication skills
