About the Role
We are looking for a Lead Android Developer to join our remote-first team at Smart Working. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance Android applications for major global airlines, fuel suppliers, and airports, supporting critical aviation fuel operations.
Key Responsibilities
- →Design, build, and maintain advanced Android applications using Java and Kotlin, focusing on performance, reliability, and real-time behavior
- →Develop refined user interfaces and complex business logic integrated with backend systems and device hardware
- →Write clean, extensible, and well-tested code, ensuring high test coverage using JUnit and related frameworks
- →Architect and implement new features, communicating technical approaches and dependencies to the team
- →Propose and deliver improvements to application architecture, development practices, and tooling
- →Take ownership of feature delivery, including estimation, implementation, testing, and release
- →Work independently across the codebase while collaborating within a Scrum team
- →Participate in sprint planning, refinements, reviews, and retrospectives
- →Review code produced by peers, promoting high standards of quality and testability
- →Ensure all delivered code meets acceptance criteria, quality standards, and security expectations
- →Collaborate with Android and iOS engineers, testers, product managers, and stakeholders
Requirements
- ✓4+ years of professional Android development experience using Java
- ✓3+ years of commercial experience building Android applications with Kotlin
- ✓Strong knowledge of the Android SDK, including lifecycle management and performance optimization
- ✓Solid experience writing automated tests using JUnit and/or Espresso
- ✓Experience with Gradle for build configuration and dependency management
- ✓Proven experience delivering production-ready, maintainable Android code
- ✓Demonstrated experience acting as a technical lead or senior engineer
- ✓Ability to mentor engineers, lead code reviews, and uphold engineering best practices
- ✓Experience making and communicating architectural and technical decisions
- ✓Comfortable working autonomously within an Agile/Scrum team
