SpecterOps is seeking a highly skilled Senior IT System Administrator to join our internal corporate IT team. The Senior IT System Administrator is responsible for the design, deployment, administration, and optimization of enterprise IT infrastructure across cloud and hybrid environments. The ideal candidate brings a strong operational mindset, excels in fast-paced, security-conscious research environments. This role reports directly to the Director of Information Technology.
This is an individual contributor role best suited for an experienced and certified IT professional who can work both independently and as part of a team, while collaborating cross-functionally with Security, Compliance, Engineering, and other business operations teams to achieve company-wide goals.
Salary: base salary annually, commensurate with experience.
• $115,000 - $145,000
Location: This position is remote, based in the U.S. with optional travel quarterly for in person company events and other ad hoc meetings

Responsibilities
• Architect, design, and maintain enterprise infrastructure across hybrid cloud, on-premises, and SaaS environments to ensure scalability, security, and high availability for a fast-growing cybersecurity organization.
• Serve as a senior technical leader and subject matter expert for systems architecture, identity, endpoint management, collaboration platforms, and enterprise services.
• Partner closely with the Director of Information Technology to help guide the IT Operations team, drive strategic initiatives, and ensure alignment between infrastructure capabilities and business objectives.
• Design and operate multi-cloud infrastructure environments, including identity integrations, compute workloads, and platform services.
• Lead architecture and lifecycle management for enterprise productivity and collaboration platforms, ensuring secure configuration, policy enforcement, and operational reliability.
• Develop and maintain identity and access management architecture, including directory services, federation, authentication flows, and enterprise access controls.
• Design, deploy, and manage endpoint infrastructure for corporate workstations and laptops across multiple operating systems, ensuring strong security posture and user productivity.
• Oversee secure infrastructure for internal systems and services, including virtualized workloads, internal application hosting, and enterprise service platforms.
• Drive secure email and messaging platform architecture, including authentication, reputation protection, and anti-abuse controls.
• Design and maintain enterprise networking and secure remote access infrastructure, supporting distributed employees and global operations.
• Implement and maintain centralized logging, monitoring, and observability platforms to support operational visibility, troubleshooting, and security investigations.
• Lead vulnerability management initiatives, including patching strategies, remediation processes, and risk mitigation across infrastructure, endpoints, and applications.
• Collaborate with security engineering teams to ensure infrastructure aligns with security best practices, compliance standards, and threat mitigation strategies.
• Evaluate, recommend, and implement new tools and technologies that improve operational efficiency, security posture, and developer productivity, ensuring the company stays aligned with modern best-of-breed solutions.
• Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to systems engineers and IT operations staff while remaining a hands-on individual contributor.

Requirements
• 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including 4+ years in a senior systems administration role
• Hands-on expertise managing Windows Server and Linux in enterprise production environments
• Strong experience with hybrid cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS
• Familiarity with ITIL-based ITSM practices (Change & Incident Management) and alignment with core values (curiosity, improvement, empathy, transparency)
• Core infrastructure: Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and Linux (Debian-based, CLI)
• Cloud & workplace platforms: AWS, Microsoft 365, Azure AD (Entra ID), Intune, and Defender
• Automation & operations: PowerShell/Bash/Python scripting, ITSM tools (Zendesk, ServiceNow, Jira), backups, and SIEM/monitoring
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a structured problem-solving approach
• Clear communicator able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced, security-sensitive environments
• Collaborative team player experienced working cross-functionally across IT and business units
• High professionalism, accountability, discretion, and willingness to support on-call/after-hours incidents
Nice to haves
• AWS certifications (SysOps Administrator, Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional) and Microsoft certifications (Windows Server Hybrid Admin, Azure Admin, or M365 Admin)
• ITIL 4 Foundation (preferred advanced levels) and additional security certifications (Security+, CISSP)
• Experience in cybersecurity, government, or research environments with familiarity in compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, SOC 2, GDPR, FedRAMP)
• Knowledge of modern security and infrastructure practices, including containers (Docker/Kubernetes), SIEM, PAM, and Zero Trust Architecture
