About the Role
We are looking for a Research Engineer to join our Artist-First AI Music lab at Spotify. This role involves pioneering and advancing state-of-the-art generative technologies for music, creating breakthrough experiences for fans and artists.
Key Responsibilities
- βWork closely with research scientists to conduct groundbreaking research in music generation and related domains like ML-based audio processing and music information retrieval.
- βImprove model training pipelines by debugging distributed training and optimizing data loading at massive scale.
- βOptimize performance by profiling and accelerating existing training and inference code.
- βIntegrate models into production environments by deploying them for hundreds of millions of Spotify users.
- βTranslate models and techniques from research literature into robust prototypes.
- βMaintain a high-quality codebase with clear structure, consistency, and testing practices.
- βBuild internal tooling and workflows to enhance researcher experience.
Requirements
- βExperience training or fine-tuning large machine learning models on GPUs using PyTorch or similar frameworks.
- βExperience working with cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Microsoft Azure.
- βAbility to debug problems in machine learning training code.
- βEffective communication with global teams and readiness to work asynchronously.
- βExperience optimizing code for performance, particularly on GPUs.
- βQuick learning of new concepts and technologies in machine learning and AI.
- βResourcefulness and proactivity in seeking solutions through research and collaboration.
- βWillingness to use low-level debugging tools like lldb and NVIDIA Nsight.
- βSolid grasp of computer science concepts like type systems, compilers, parallelism, and thread safety.
- βInterest in audio processing and music information retrieval.
