The Issuing Engineering team is at the heart of how our users create and manage physical and virtual cards. As part of the broader Money Management organization, we build the infrastructure that allows businesses to distribute funds instantly, manage global spend, and scale their financial operations with ease.

What youβll do
As an Engineering Manager for Issuing, you will lead a team of talented engineers to build the financial infrastructure that powers modern commerce. You will be responsible for the technical roadmap and operational excellence of systems that handle millions of transactions globally.
In this role, you will:

Lead and Mentor: Manage a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous growth.

Architect for Scale: Design, build, and maintain the core infrastructure required to support Stripe's rapid global expansion and increasing transaction volumes.

Drive Technical Strategy: Lead technical conversations and decision-making processes across different teams at Stripe to ensure long-term architectural integrity and maintainability.

Solve Complex Problems: Debug production issues across all levels of the stack, identifying root causes and implementing robust solutions that prevent recurrence.

Focus on the Customer: Partner with product and design to build a seamless, world-class experience for the developers and businesses using your infrastructure.

Plan for the Future: Develop and execute long-term technical plans that anticipate the needs of our users and the evolution of the global financial landscape.
Responsibilities
β’ Drive Product Innovation: Build novel Link payment capabilities designed to move the needle on conversion for businesses and create seamless value for consumers.
β’ Navigate Product-Market Fit: Lead the team through rapid iteration to find product-market fit, building a diverse suite of products both at the point of checkout and in adjacent consumer spaces.
β’ Full-Stack Ownership: Enable your team to work across a wide range of systems, processes, and technologies, empowering them to own and solve complex problems from end-to-end.
β’ Operational Excellence: Design and lead engineering processes that allow the team to do its best work while engaging effectively with the broader Stripe ecosystem.
β’ Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate deeply with stakeholders across Product, Design, Data Science, Operations, Partnerships, and Marketing to align on strategy and execution.
β’ Team Growth & Mentorship: Actively develop the engineers on your team, providing the coaching and opportunities they need to advance in their careers.
β’ Strategic Recruiting: Partner with Stripeβs recruiting team to identify and hire world-class engineering talent to scale the Link organization.

Minimum requirements
β’ 5+ years of experience directly managing and growing software engineering teams.
β’ Proven track record of managing teams of 8+ engineers focused on shipping high-scale, consumer-facing, or infrastructure products.
β’ Technical Proficiency: Ability to engage deeply with engineers on architecture, system design, and technical trade-offs across the stack.
β’ User-First Mindset: A strong sense of empathy for the consumer and a drive to advocate for exceptional, low-friction user experiences.
β’ Operational Excellence: Experience thriving in a fast-paced, autonomous environment, managing multiple high-impact workstreams simultaneously.
