StubHub is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Web Foundations team within Consumer App Foundations (CAF). This team builds and evolves the shared web platform that powers StubHub’s consumer experiences across web and mobile, serving millions of fans during some of the highest traffic moments in live events. As a Staff Engineer on Web Foundations, you will operate as a technical leader and force multiplier, owning critical platform strategy, shaping architecture across teams, and driving engineering excellence end to end. You will work across frontend and backend systems to design foundational capabilities, influence multiple roadmaps, and elevate how product teams build, ship, and scale. This is a deeply hands-on role for engineers who thrive on solving complex, ambiguous problems, setting technical direction, and building systems that other engineers depend on every day. Location: Hybrid (3 days in office/2 days remote) – Seattle, WA About the team: Consumer App Foundations (CAF) operates horizontally to provide shared infrastructure, tooling, and standards that power all consumer-facing teams. The Web Foundations team focuses on: • Shared frontend and backend platform services • Core web architecture and reusable component libraries • APIs and middleware supporting consumer workflows • Performance, reliability, and accessibility at scale • Enabling experimentation and feature velocity We partner deeply with product, design, data, and vertical engineering teams to ensure StubHub’s foundation enables rapid innovation without sacrificing quality, performance, or developer velocity. What You'll Do: • Set technical direction for the web platform, driving architecture that scales across teams and use cases • Design and build foundational systems and services that power multiple product surfaces • Lead the evolution of frontend and backend platform capabilities, balancing long term vision with near term impact • Drive performance, reliability, and scalability initiatives across high traffic consumer systems • Act as a multiplier for the organization, mentoring engineers, raising the bar in code quality, and influencing engineering culture • Identify and solve systemic issues across the stack, from developer experience to production reliability • Partner with cross functional and cross team leaders to align platform investments with business outcomes • Champion best practices in observability, testing, experimentation, and release safety • Lead complex projects from ambiguous problem spaces through execution and adoption What You've Done: • 8+ years of experience building and scaling production systems, with a strong track record of technical leadership • Deep expertise in fullstack development, including modern frontend frameworks (React, JavaScript or TypeScript) and backend systems (C#, Java, Python, or similar) • Proven ability to design and evolve large scale distributed systems and platform architectures • Experience influencing and delivering across multiple teams or organizational boundaries • Strong systems thinking with a deep understanding of tradeoffs across performance, scalability, reliability, and developer experience • Demonstrated ownership of high impact, ambiguous initiatives from concept through adoption • Experience operating in high scale consumer environments with real time or marketplace dynamics • A reputation for raising the engineering bar through mentorship, design reviews, and technical leadership Nice to have: • Experience building or owning internal platforms, shared services, or design systems • Familiarity with feature flagging, experimentation platforms, or growth infrastructure • Deep experience with web performance optimization and Core Web Vitals at scale • Exposure to AI powered product experiences or developer tooling • Experience modernizing or evolving legacy systems into scalable platforms What We Offer: • Accelerated Growth Environment: An environment designed for swift skill and knowledge enhancement, where you have the autonomy to lead experiments and tests on a massive scale. • Top Tier Compensation Package: Competitive base, equity, and upside that tracks with your impact. • Flexible Time Off: Enjoy unlimited Flex Time Off, giving you the flexibility to manage your schedule and take time to recharge as needed. • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Prioritize your well-being with a comprehensive benefits package, featuring 401k, and premium Health, Vision, and Dental Insurance options. The anticipated gross base pay range is below for this role. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and competencies. Base annual salary is one component of StubHub’s total compensation and competitive benefits package, which includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits.
