About the Role
Syngenta’s Automation & Engineering Team is seeking an Automation Engineer in Malta, IL. This role will lead the design, development, prototyping, and deployment of end-to-end automation systems that drive efficiency, precision, and scalability within Seeds R&D.
Key Responsibilities
- →Lead the architectural design and integration of automated systems from concept to production, incorporating PLCs, robotics, and mechanical/electrical components.
- →Develop and optimize high-speed, high-accuracy pick-and-place systems using machine vision and robotic arms.
- →Build and iterate physical prototypes using rapid prototyping methods like 3D printing and CNC machining.
- →Work closely with breeders, data scientists, biologists, engineers, and operations teams to solve complex robotics and automation challenges.
- →Stay current with emerging technologies to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
- →Conduct cost-benefit analyses and tradeoff evaluations to optimize design efficiency.
- →Manage project timelines and deliverables using Agile methodologies.
- →Prepare comprehensive technical reports, SOPs, and presentations.
Requirements
- ✓Deep technical expertise in automation systems, PLCs, robotics, and mechanical/electrical components.
- ✓Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- ✓Practical prototyping skills with rapid prototyping methods.
- ✓Hands-on experience with machine vision and robotic arms.
- ✓Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and solve complex challenges.
- ✓Knowledge of emerging technologies in automation and robotics.
- ✓Experience with Agile methodologies and engineering best practices.
