ML Engineer - Data Engineering at tomtom

What you’ll do: • Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and workflows, ensuring reliability and consistency across environments. • Implement data validation, testing, and basic lineage tracking to support data quality initiatives. • Monitor pipelines and systems, triaging issues, and collaborating with senior engineers to resolve root causes. • Support performance optimization efforts for data storage, queries, and processing workloads. • Participate in managing cloud-based environments (e.g., Azure) for data and ML workflows. • Work with orchestration tools to schedule and maintain recurring jobs. • Assist in implementing metadata management and access controls. • Contribute to building dashboards and monitoring tools for data quality, model performance, and system health. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and support internal stakeholders. • Document processes, pipelines, and best practices to improve team knowledge sharing. • Work in a flexible, mostly remote environment that supports work-life balance. What you’ll need: • 2+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, ML Engineer or similar role. • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field (Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD). • Proficiency in Python, Spark • Experience building or maintaining data pipelines (Databricks or similar platforms). • Basic knowledge of orchestration and containerization tools (Airflow, Docker; Kubernetes is a plus). • Experience working with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP). • Strong SQL skills and exposure to NoSQL databases. • Understanding of data modeling, partitioning, indexing, and performance tuning. • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD workflows. • Good communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset. What's nice to have: • Exposure to ML/AI workflows or experience supporting model deployment. • Familiarity with geospatial libraries and formats (Shapely, GeoPandas, GeoTIFF/COG). • Knowledge of GIS tools for spatial data analysis. • Experience with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, etc.) • Understanding of IaC tools such as Terraform.
