About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join Versant Media's Data Platforms team. This individual contributor role focuses on building scalable backend and data-driven services using modern engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
- →Design, build, and evolve backend services and data platform components using Node.js and TypeScript
- →Define and implement modular, service-oriented architectures that support scalable data ingestion, transformation, and access patterns
- →Partner with data engineering, platform, and governance stakeholders to enable lakehouse-style architectures, ELT pipelines, and metadata management capabilities
- →Establish and evangelize engineering best practices including object-oriented design, test-driven development, and secure development lifecycle principles
- →Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for safe, repeatable, and observable deployments
- →Evaluate and integrate modern data storage and processing technologies
- →Act as a technical leader by contributing to architectural decisions, reviewing designs and code, and mentoring other engineers
Requirements
- ✓Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript
- ✓Proven ability to design and implement service-oriented architectures
- ✓Experience with data ingestion, transformation, and access patterns
- ✓Knowledge of lakehouse architectures, ELT pipelines, and metadata management
- ✓Expertise in engineering best practices including object-oriented design, TDD, and SDL principles
- ✓Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- ✓Familiarity with modern data storage and processing technologies
- ✓Ability to work effectively in a matrixed enterprise environment with both legacy systems and modern platforms
